I miss his DC radio show, so I hope he does hang it up. The networks should think about guys like Peter King, Don Banks, or Dr Z for the booth. Guys who know the game but aren't dumb jocks.

Kornheiser on MNF is horrible. Its like hes trying way to hard and im sick of his absolute pop warner football questions that he asks Theisman.

I really want the crew of Vermeil, Jaws, and Nessler. Although it was just one game (Raiders-Chargers), I thought that was the best crew I've heard. They actually analyzed the game instead of making stupid broad generalizations.

I couldn't agree more. Despite the fact that the game was a mismatch, those guys made it watchable. Very good analysis, combined with soem insight into how the game is played and coached made it entertaining and good to watch. Keep in mind that MNF has struggled with ratings in recent years. I wish they would stop "dumbing it down" with guys like Theisman and focus on the nuances of the game, like LB play and what players away from the ball can contribute on a play. Stop playing to the lowest common denominator and give us some REAL analysis.

I like Kornheiser a lot in his other roles, but I really don't have a feeling one way or the other when it comes to MNF. I just detest Theezman. His ridiculous homerism aside, he's an idiot and sounds like it on national TV. I mean, I almost lost it Monday night when he blasted the Cards for not staying agressive and throwing the ball and then five minutes later criticized the Arizona play callers for putting the ball in the air and not taking time off the clock.

i like tony so i certainly dont mind him on the booth, i just think people arent used to a style like his so people dont like it, the one who has to go is Freaking Joe Theissman, hes an idiot and constantly condradicts himself every 5 minutes.

I dislike him more than any other Monday Night announcer ever. I really can't even tell you why. I just loath the guy and he take a lot of enjoyment out of watching MNF for me.:thumbdo:

Tony Kornheiser might leave MNF

Those of you who dislike Tony Kornheiser might be happy to hear he might not return to the booth on Monday Night Football next season.

Kornheiser will be in Dallas, probably Saturday, getting ready for the Cowboys-Giants game on Monday night.

Maybe Matt Mosley will take over for Tony.

With or without Kornheiser, that's one of the worst announcing crews I've ever had the displeasure to hear.

But IMO, Kornheiser is the least of their problems.

That was a fine crew of announcers. I couldn't stand Cosell alone. Meredith would have been a waste alone. But with Gifford doing deadpan between those two, it was a very lively booth.

One old example.. Dallas playing someone..(barely remembered, so this is probably inexact)..

Cosell: Robert Newhouse. He's no runnah..

(after Bob Newhouse throws a pass option for a touchdown..)

Gifford: Maybe Newhouse can't run, but he can sure throw a pass.

You're not hearing the real Tony. He's deliberately holding back. The real Tony is much more sarcastic and mean. But since he's required to do pre-game interviews with the players and coaches, he's forced to "play nice."

ESPN couldn't have picked worse commentators for MNF. You have Theezman, with an IQ of about 75. Apparently the interest in the new MNF commentary position from NFL veterans was rather low, so they had to go with this shmuck.

Kornheiser, who knows jack about football and only got the job because he was high up the ESPN ladder and feels the need to tell us who he has in fantasy every week. Thanks Tony, but no one cares.

Then you have Tirico, who I didn't even know existed until I saw him on MNF. I really don't have any problems with him, but as the ringleader of this rag-tag bunch he does a rather poor job of lead commentary. He was obviously well connected.

Things haven't been this bad since Dennis Miller was in the booth. I just got used to hearing Al Michaels and co. for so long that I feel like I'm watching MNF Sunday nights on NBC.
