Losing di Maria will hurt argentina, but apparently kun agüero is back! That's a net gain in my book. Can't wait for these semis!

Aguero hasn't been a factor in this world cup when he has played. DiMa has been in much better form recently.

I wonder if having Dante in over silva might be a blessing in disguise, seeing as Dante plays in bayern with most of these guys. Thoughts?

No, I don't think it will help. He may know those guys, but they also know him. Silva is one of the best in the world. Dante is good, but he is a step down. Germany will know how to attack him.

aguero hasn't been healthy, di maria hasn't exactly played great, he's missed a lot of chances. he actually had a pretty bad game vs switzerland before he scored the game winner. If aguero is healthy, and thats a big if, he will make a huge difference, he is lethal.

I wouldn't be surprised if Brazil found a way to win.

If the coach is smart he will have this team keep more of a defensive shape and play off of the counter.

4-2-3-1 Gustavo and Fernandinho in the middle, Hulk, Willian, Oscar as CAMS, Fred up top.

Honestly though i'd like to see Bernard in over Hulk but I know the coach won't do that.

He is but he has been a JAG in this tournament. Di Maria as well.

I think they have tactical issues going forward. No way should all of these top notch players look so average.

If I were them i'd play Palacio for 90 minutes. He looks like he has some goals in him if he had more time on the pitch.

Start Lavezzi as well.

Brazil still has arguably the most talent in the tourney.
They are definitely the deepest side in the world.
Outside the GK Brazil is strong everywhere else.

Germany and Brazil are very similar squads now that Neymar is down.

Argentina is the hardest to predict because Messi can do so many things so well and the rest of the club will really defend.

Germany was susceptible to the runs of Fabian Johnson and Yedlin so it will be interesting to see if Germany uses Lahm in ** or on the backline.

I'd play William over Hulk for the larger gas tank and more speed.
I'd probably play Hulk as a #10 over Fred.

Not sure what to make of the Netherlands with Van Persie looking quite old but Robben looking like a peaking (and flopping) superstar.

And now it looks like Yedlin will be heading to Italy, great for him and bitter sweet for the Sounders Fans that have seen him since he was with local youth club teams, then Sounders Academy, to first MLS start to USMNT call up for World Cup and great play I might add! At least it will be an American Owned team and a Seattle Native that is in charge, I say that not to be Pro-America but for future call ups and US marketing for the lad!!!

i know it hurts for you sounders fans to see him go, but its great for him and for american soccer. hopefully you guys get a nice little fee for his transfer and since he was home grown or whatnot you guys basically keep the money? not 100% sure how it works in MLS but i think its something along those lines

I love it. I think it also will benefit Sounders fans as they can start to follow some games in Italy!!
Yedlin can really develop into a beast and be our best player in 4 years IMHO.
And I was against his inclusion at the start of this WC cycle.

Seeing guys like Zusi and Davis just detail why we can't afford to have our best players be MLS tied for their careers.
Need to see Euro league tactics and speed of game to fully develop.

I agree with all of this. Not being healthy is part of not being in good form

One thing I hate about soccer...

Is that being "out of form" or whatever you want to call it is just an accepted part of the game. I guess its comparable to a slump, but it just seems so acceptable in soccer.

I wouldn't say its acceptable by any means ... Its just a nicer way of saying he sucks right now

Hahahaha... So silly... My wife is Colombian and her and all her friends who know nothing about soccer have been trying to tell me the same thing...

They are wrong... Yepes was offside when the fk was taken.. The ball was played to him and then he scored... But bc he was offside and played the ball, it negates the fact that the ball came off a brazilian prior to him scoring...

The ruling was correct. Fact of the matter is brazil was the far better side. Yes, the ref had a poor game, but he was not the reason why Colombia lost

I agree. Other than winning the PK with a flop against Croatia, Fred has done nothing. Neither has his backup Jo. Changing up to a false 9 would probably be better than letting Fred waste a spot out there.

It isn't acceptable, but as in all sports there are certain limitations on what a team can do. If it were some average player you would just replace him, but that doesn't happen with the star players that often. When you have a very talented player going through a slump or being out of form you stick with him. You aren't likely to have someone better on the squad who can replace him. We see this in every sport. If Dez Bryant goes through a slump for a few games you don't sit him on the bench for Dwayne Harris. If Dwayne Harris is out of form for a few games you replace him with Cole Beasley.
