I do and you are 100% wrong. Did you see Darius butler break down the play lol. An actual nfl DB lol. Stop man. Worley had the deep 3rd and let the wr run right up on him before he even thought about opening his hips. Diggs has played poorly as well. Sorry my G. Watch other corners around the league play not the high school dbs that the cowboys have here.

Look at it from a different perspective. What was Lewis doing?
  • If Worley is intended to carry that WR, then Lewis should have covered the slot WR.
  • They they a single-high FS and the slot WR is turned loose.
  • Diggs is in man on the other side.
  • What coverage has the outside CBs in man with a single-high FS where the Nickel CB does not cover the slot WR?

It's a cover 3 look. Notice the db on the short side of the field has the same depth as Lewis. Lol except the corner actually turns and runs with the wr at the bottom of the screen. NO ONE IS IN MAN. NOBODY!!! When you are in zone and you pick up your man then technically it's man coverage lol. Lbers are in zone, safeties are in zone. Stop crucifying lewis he doesn't need help getting crucified because he is and will not be here next year and neither will worley.

Both LBs and the SS stay within 5 yards of the line. That is not zone coverage...

How do you feel if you are Mike Nolan reviewing this film? How can you teach that to a Vet?
I would assume he is just trying to make a play.

The defense is having breakdowns everywhere.

Not just this play.

Our safeties were a problem last year and we did nothing to fix it.

Dix washed out which was a major fail. He was expected to stabilize the safety play.

So the secondary is weak and the LBers are not helping at all. Jaylon had a good game against the Gints but that's pretty much it.

So obviously a breakdown like this play will happen when so much is not coordinating.

The other players know what the coverage is supposed to be. LVE and Lewis are calling responsibility out. Worley doesn’t stay true to the call. Instead of playing deep zone he tries to jump route. That’s on him not on Nolan.

Worley has to be doing this on purpose

They stay close because they are playing short zones that nobody threatens. You can see LVE call the coverage by pointing to the sky; it's a Cover 3 "sky" coverage. Three deep zones covered by the boundary corners (Diggs and Worley) and the deep safety (Woods). The LBs split the short middle hook zones and the slot corner (Lewis) and down safety (Wilson) cover the flats.

It's a very simple coverage scheme that Worley completely blows. He bit on the double move and tried to jump a route when there was already an underneath defender there. He didn't stick to his zone integrity and got beat. Similar issues with gap integrity in the run game. Most of the issues with this defense are basic fundamentals, regardless of scheme complexity.

Yes but why does this continue to happen? There have been egregious busted coverages in literally every game. Ultimately that still points back to the coaching of the unit.
It's because they let their best corner walk, and their current best corner is hurt. There's no amount of coaching that fixes Worley on this play, or Diggs yesterday.

Notice how it doesn't happen to Brown and Chido?

Let's see, Worley sucked for 4 years before we signed him. Was there a reason we thought he suddenly wouldn't suck?

I'll give you credit for at least making your own argument regardless of whether I agree or not. That is the type of debate that I prefer instead of some knuckleheads pointing to PFF or otherwise not being able to make their own argument.

Cover 3 Sky was one of the 2 primary coverages used by the Legion of Boom.

On cover 3 Sky, outside CBs play outside leverage (i.e. Force WRs towards the middle of the field.).

On the side with the slot WR, there is an additional call or a communication between the the Nickel CB and outside CB regarding the exact coverage they'll play (i.e. Switch-off or not).

The expectation is that the FS will "favor" the side with 2 WRs (Side with the slot WR).

There is also an expectation that at least 1 of the SS, MLB or WLB will get some depth in the middle regardless of "threats"; although, play action is considered a cover 3 Sky "beater".

My point with the Worley/Lewis play is that we don't know the expectation on the 2-man call between the Nickel CB and outside CB. Modern NFL defenses have to build in variations in that 2-man sub-call into all coverages; otherwise, offenses will run rub routes on them all day.

An interesting note is that in the Football Team game, Diggs (in a different situation) sat on the route in a very similar manner to what Worley did in the play that we're discussing.

Notice that the Nickel CB carries the outside WR deep in the video below.
