Worst Case Scenario

If we are talking about a top 40 pick, I'd rather take someone that has a bit of both. Its not so much his athleticism that worries, its fluidity. He is very janky. That can be a real problem both in the run and pass. Lee wasnt a great athlete, but he was very fluid and was able to get where he needed to be, when he need to get there. Thats a problem I can see Allen having in the pros and the reason why he worries me. To me he is far more likely to be an Anthony Hitchens than a Sean Lee. Im fine with that outside the top 60. Inside the 60, I want a better player. And Allen probably goes top 40
In this draft, their are warts with even the top 10 prospects. There won't be a perfect linebacker, even if they drafted Styles, who is the closest. Question is what does CP value the most? More of an elite run defender or one who can be strong as a coverage guy. You aren't going to find both outside of Styles. Hill is the prospect that checks all the boxes for physical traits you look for the position, but he lacks instincts, isn't good taking on blocks.

I wouldn't take any of the 2nd tier in rd 1, but would consider them inside the top 50.

Styles could probably come in and play at a high level. He learned the Mike position awfully fast and thrived. That has to say alot about his in field intelligence. I actually have Trotter at the top of tier 2. Or neck and neck with Rodriguez. Same instincts Allen has, but much better agility and athleticism. He could be the next Shaq Leonard level rookie

I am high on Trotter as well and put him in the same group inside that top 50, but he is probably the worse coverage linebacker out of the grouping, love him as a run defender though

Not normally, but we could say the say thing about many of these prospects this year. Several players will be pushed up due to the lack of sure fire talent at the top.
Yea I would just have to disagree with that.

I would pivot to an offensive player before drafting Mesidoor at 12 and probably even 20.

So if the goal is to win a SB within the next few years.
Why would Mesidor's age be an issue.
You can get a good 8 yrs out of him if he really ids that good. Get a SB win or even 2.
Would that not be worth it?
It is more of the fact that he didnt turn into a top prospect until he was playing kids 3/4 years younger. Being older does not mean "NFL ready."

I dont care about the second contract.

It will depend upon the team’s board how they rate the players. Worst case would mean a wide receiver or tackle has fallen and they may just go bpa and take them

It would really suck getting a guy who can pressure QBs consistently and another front seven player who walks in the best off ball LB on the roster and completely strike out on any cornerbacks.

Let's hope we avoid this worst case scenario.

The issue is not his age as much. The issue is why did it take him so long to produce against competition not nearly as experienced as him. And injuries. Would be a truly awful draft pick before the 3rd round

I might be able to stomach LB at the end of the first in a trade back scenario, but even that is pushing it. I think they go Edge and DB in the first.

But if I'm being completely honest, I'm not that focused on anyone position or player. Only because this is more than a one year fix. Just take BPA.
Personally, I love good safety play and would love a difference maker there. But I know this team's history and I don't see them going that direction.

12. Mesidoor
20. CJ Allen

This honestly would not surprise if we get wiped early but man this would be tough to swallow. This would be the definition of reaching for need and I am not a fan of old prospects with injury history.

What do you think?
Maybe they're committed to a difference maker. They moved up for DeMarcus Lawrence and never looked back.

Those low value positions killed the Cowboys last season. Downs and Styles are not low value.
In relation to the bigger picture and the costs if various positions it matters.

Too many needs to be moving up for a noj premium position.

Never go wrong taking the best players...we dont draft well when we reach for need.

The Cowboys need to stay away from any player with a history of serious injury.

Every season we see players dropping like flies during the preseason. They don't need to compound that situation by drafting potential injury prone players.

It seems very rare that the Cowboys draft a player with a serious injury and that player has no further issues.

Jaylon Smith, Damone Clark, Shavon Revel, Leighton Vander Esch.....the Cowboys can't risk a 1st round pick on someone who can't fully recover or rapidly deteriorates in a matter of a few seasons.
