Well, I hate DMB, but I agree for the most part.I'll never understand the 90s image of bad music. In my opinion, it's one of the best next to the 60s and 70s. Some of my favorite bands come from the 90s, Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, O.A.R and Umphrey's McGee, to name a few. Not to mention some of the best rap in its existence, with Biggie, 2pac, Dre, Snoop etc. If you're looking for bad music, turn to the 80s. With a few exceptions like Gensis, that music scene was a train wreck.
90's stations today don't play any of that stuff, they play all the pop stuff, so the perception is really skewed. The 90's put out a ton of great stuff, especially in hip-hop. VH1 has a pretty awesome documentary/miniseries called "The Tanning of America" about that. Hip hop then was just as important influence as anything from the previous decades.
