I have no ill will toward Barber. I think he means well, but this has developed into an opportunity for us to make a proactive move (well, relatively) and release a player somewhat ahead of the curve.
Granted, being truly proactive would have entailed not extending him prematurely or diminishing his role this year, but you get my point.
I think we're asking for disaster by bringing him back unless we specifically spell out to him that he's going to become our No. 3 back and he's fine with the diminished role. He's always been a team player, but I really think he could become a problem for us next year if we bring him back and then just drop him like a rock down the depth chart in week 1 or 2.
So long story short, dump him or bring him back as a situational (5 carries a game) kind of guy.
