Would the Patriots have given Dak the deal he wants?

So Brady earned his massive contract.

Wins 3 Superbowls and a season where he threw 50 TDs.

Dak has 2 good statistical seasons and one playoff. And needed Amari Cooper in 2018 or they would've missed the playoffs.

    Just give it a rest.

The original argument was Brady took a discount so Dak should as well. Brady didn't take a discount till 10 years in the league.

No you're wrong. Peyton Manning was the highest paid player in 2005.

Brady won another SB in 2004 too.

2 Superbowl victories and Brady was the MVP in the 2004 and 2002 Superbowls.

That didn't deserve top money to you? But you want to make Dak the highest paid player or 2nd?

    Explain your logic.

If the argument is that he always played on team-friendly deals, the bolded statement kind of defeats that, doesn't it? Highest-paid and team-friendly aren't compatible.

So, after 9 seasons in the league, 3 Superbowls, 2 SB MVPs and a 50 TD season and Brady finally wanted to get paid.

If you call that greedy, tell me what that makes Dak

I didn't say it didn't deserve top money. I literally said he was making top money. That is the way the salary cap has been going for years. Cousins has been highest paid. Garropollo has been highest paid off less than 10 starts. If you are a franchise qb, you will likely be the highest paid at signing. I have no issue with Brady being highest paid. Idk how you got that from my earlier post.

    Apples and oranges

one of the primary reasons Dak has leverage is because this team is at it's window. You really can't be sure that will be true two seasons from now, when the Cowboys have a starting QB with a season under his belt. At that point, who will still be here, Tyron, Zack, Lee, Cooper, Gallup? No telling..

This team has an offense that can carry it to the door of the playoffs. At that point, the defense could be in sync, more familiar with each other, operating like a unit. One of the important considerations is Dak's familiarity with the team and visa versa. You don't want to break apart something that seems to be working well.

None of this is true for Dak in New England. Therefore, he will have a different value for them. This is true for all players, their value is not a constant across the league, they will have different values depending on that team's current situation. Besides, it should be pretty obvious that Belicek doesn't pay a premium for another team's player success. He builds his own. Cam is that "rebound" boyfriend, a temporary fix. Belicek will find his next long term starter in the draft.

No, for sure the Pats would not have Dak what he wanted.
Just to be clear though; they wouldn't have given Zeke or Cooper their deals either.

Wins are a team stat not an individual stat.

I am not saying Brady did not deserve to get paid but Brady did not put together that kind of season until he started getting all pro talent. A good QB can get the most of his weapons, but if the weapons are terrible then you are not going to be able to get much out of them (that and Brady really was a work in progress for the first part of his career).

If Dak did not sign the contract that was offered it tells me that Todd France has a team that will give Dak what he wants. Agents are not stupid. Even Cowherd thinks there are a few teams that would pay Dak next offseason.

No the Patriots do not over pay any of their players. That's the special ingredient to their success.

Why are we comparing Dak to multiple SB winning future HOF players?

No, the Patriots don't cater to players demanding elite pay, without displaying everything that goes with it. Losing to good teams by way of offering little more than average performance only merits less than elite compensation. Simply proving he can win vs. the good teams will get Dak what he wants. It's unfortunate that their recent negotiations didn't get both the Cowboys and Dak what they want. Better luck next time, perhaps? We'll see.

This is the most relevant point that most ignore or don’t grasp. Aside from the perceived need, there is also a measure of a team seeing an opportunity to weaken a rival at the same time. That was a part of Hog Jowell’s desire to get Deion. And very likely the same with Philly and Demarco Murray.

Because the OP thinks Dak has to already be enshrined in the HOF to get a big contract.

We started doing that around 2098-2009 with our QBs.
