Would you be happy with a Super Bowl loss?

I find it equally fascinating that most of the "of course I would" respondents are more than likely less than 30 years old.

Again, as an "older" fan who has lived my life dealing with the rabid Cowboys haters, I'm here to tell you that not only will you live the rest of your life dealing with the pain of a Super Bowl loss, you also will CONSTANTLY get reminded of the loss by Cowboys haters, media, NFL films (you know how many times I've seen the Jackie Smith drop and Swann knee to the chest catch?) and the like.

To put it another way, it's the Romo bobble x 100.

And as an old fogey who watched us lose two SBs, I'm here to tell you that it's still better than not making it there.

Happy with a Super Bowl loss? Is this a serious question? I remember living through Super Bowl losses and I can guarantee you one thing - you NEVER get over losing the big game. Even after all these years it is still very painful to think about those games.

And thats just for the fans.

Roger said losing it is so painful he would rather not go then go and lose.

Yes, but by saying "no," you're actually robbing yourself of at least two weeks of incredible anticipation and enjoyment. Think about it, the Cowboys just won the NFC championship and for the next two weeks, you get to dream about the Cowboys being the SB champs, you get to enjoy the fact that they're the best team in the conference. By answering "no" to the original question, you'd never have those two weeks, because they never would have existed. Why would you rob yourself of those two weeks leading up to the SB?
At the end of the day, it's hard to remember anything down the road except the fact that you loss. People rarely talk about the Patriots undefeated regular season a few years back, but the the point of it all is to win it.

Your formula makes sense. I was old enough to remember the SB losses to the Steelers in the 70s, but not old enough to remember the pain. But I do remember the loss to the 49ers in the '94 NFC Championship and that was a real kick in the stomach.

There is only one winner. It must be us.

Should Cowboys make it that would be 9 SB appearances no team has ever made it to the dance 9 times. I would love the Cowboys to hold that mark win or lose

Jason Garrett said it best... "if you don't have the goal of winning a Super Bowl then find the door." Losing the Super Bowl is not the goal and so it is not success.

yeah and when a franchise has only 1 playoff win in 18 years has been 8-8 the last 3 years missing the playoffs I would say making it to the SB is a hell of an accomplishment. No doubt winning SB is the goal, getting to the SB is no easy task and sure as hell would be a vast improvement for this franchise. I would say that is a fairly successful season.

Losing has make you willing to settle with being second best. No thank you.

and failing to make it to the SB means you lost, no one would be settling for 2nd best and no one is saying they would like to lose. How is losing in the playoffs better or not making the SB? what you settled for 5th or 6th best? I don't get the logic of that. Getting to the SB is an achievement and no easy task to win the conference championship and for this franchise who has not sniffed success in a very long time making it to the SB would be a big accomplishment

Screw the past few years. The goal is always the same. Fail that then you fail. Period!

so then you would much rather not get to the SB than to make the SB and not win? LOL ok

I didn't say that. The OP asked how I'd feel about losing the SB. I'm saying the goal is to win it, not just be in it. I'd feel unsatisfied. How good do you think Buffalo felt losing four straight? I guarantee you winning two of those games(as the Cowboys did) is a ton better than just being in the four that Buffalo lost.

Of course you are there to win it and should you lose the SB of course there is disappointment but after the disappointment for some you start to realize the accomplishment of getting to the SB. How do Bills fan feel? I'm sure they would have loved to have won but I also know they take a lot of pride in what Marv Levy, Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and others achieved. Making 4 SB in a row is unheard of who else has done that?
For this franchise a trip to the SB win or lose is a heck of a turnaround given where we have been and while every year is a new year the reality to build a contending team takes time or as Jason says is a process and to see that process heading in the right direction is big for this franchise

then how is losing and not making post season or losing in post season any better? lol I know if I were playing I would much rather get to the SB and take my chances of losing than to not be there

Doesn't matter, it's all a failure. No prize for second place. Super Bowl win or nothing.
