Would you be mad if Seattle offered a Earl Thomas for David Irving straight up trade?

Earl Thomas would still be the best Cowboys safety by a wide margin so I'd do it if he renegotiated his deal.
I'm not paying him 8.5m for 1 year.

I'd much rather have a 2nd round pick then that.

But if he agrees to extend for 4 years at 25m with only 10m GTD and low cap hits in years 1 and 2? Dang right.

True but if they feel Dallas truly wants him they could hold onto him to make a deal. Jerry is routinely beat in trades.
Again I say huh?
We seldom make meaningful trades to win or lose.
Dallas has to tender Irving and once they do they are guaranteed that tender.
SEA is the one under pressure if they wanna pluck Irving from us. Thomas hits their cap at 10+M.

I would not be mad but I would certainly not do it. Irving is a young player with some upside. Thomas is at the end of his career and will likely not be playing much longer. I would not do that.

That is all assuming they would want Irving.

Thomas has already expressed interest in coming here and we have a glaring need at Free Safety.

I wouldn't be mad if they offered, but I would be mad if the Cowboys did it. Irving has a lot of potential. Thomas is on the downside of his very good career.

The hypothesis was indeed far fetched(though interesting) but Dallas really has no issues here or pressure.
Worst case they have David Irving back for one more contract year.
Best case they get a long-term solution somewhere, be it an R2 pick or at Safety if Thomas does come here and extend.

The pressure is on SEA and Thomas knows they aren't likely to pay him another 8.5m in 2018 or he wouldn't be in our locker room trying to endear himself to Garrett.

Without a doubt, the IDEAL situation is that we retain Irving under a 1-year tender (needs to put together a solid, 16-game season IMO) AND Seattle makes Earl Thomas a cap casualty and we pounce on him.

Why do people think Thomas has declined or is old at 28? Most elite Safeties play at a very high level into their mid 30's. Woodson made the pro bowl at 39.

Thomas would make this defense elite if the younger draft picks start to make progress or actually play.

The secondary could use a veteran leader

Mad??? That trade would be a steal for the Cowboys. An All Pro S vs a an oft injured / suspended DT is a pretty great trade. Plus Thomas is a big time leader.

He's asking the Seahawks for an extension and suggested he may hold out to get it.

No brainer. Acquire one of the best safeties in the game, a true field general in the secondary we have been missing since Woodson. Irving has talent and potential but if I gotta sacrifice him to get a REAL "War Daddy" in the secondary then I do it!

Im not sure how the rfa thing works, if we tage him with the 2nd rnd tender do we legally only able to let him go for a second rnder or can we trade him with that tender? If we can trade him, yes, I’d do it. If not, i’d trade him & a fourth comp pick for Earl & the 2nd. Irving seems like the type of “free spirit” Coach Caroll handles well & has much more youth than thomas. Both are on one year contracts. I feel a 29 yr old all pro & 2nd for a 24 yr old with pro bowl potential & a late fourth is fair. To me anyways

Holy $#!*....that says alot! Thanks for the enlightenment
Too much money for so little production.
I'm sorry guys- Witten can go to pasture. I want Witten to go coach Tennessee, or anything, but keep holding our TE position hostage and take up money from the team anymore.
Dez... ah Dez.
We can't just let him go, except to place him as a June 12th, but you need money to get a replacement and there's going to be dead money left.
And the June Cut doesn't give you money during the FA period. It gives it afterwards.
He can go next year. Unless he pulls his head out of his own butt, for once, and becomes a focused, disciplined player. HA!!!

Not happening.
