Would you bench Leary or Bernadeau?

only reason they have picked more is because they refused to pick higher which is why so many of our lower picks were busts- you get a lower hit rate the lower the pick.

That and piss poor picking as well.

If Jerruh and company had bitten the bullet and used higher picks earlier then just maybe the last couple of years of putrid O lines would not have happened.

Again, let's limit the analysis to the top three rounds. Of the 85 picks made by the Cowboys in the top three rounds between 1989-2013, 20 were offensive linemen. No team in the league has drafted more offensive linemen in the top three rounds of the draft over that span than the Cowboys. Calculated as a percentage, the Cowboys (23.5%) narrowly rank third in the league behind Miami (23.7%) and Seattle (23.9%) in terms of offensive linemen picked in rounds 1-3.

cherry picking. Until Tyron how many first rd picks? VS those other teams. Guess what? You lose.

top 3 picks are considered high picks. If all you go by are 1st rd picks there has been more under jerry than in the franchise History. Dallas has selected very few OL in the 1st rd. How many did Jimmy pick in the 1st rd? Try none! I don't lose you just don't know what they hell you are talking about.

In franchise History only 4 OL players have been drafted with a 1st rd pick and 2 of those are by Jerry

You accuse him of cherry picking and then limit the analysis to first round picks? Do you even know what cherry picking means? It means limiting the range until you confirm your bias.

For future reference, do not accuse of cherry picking and immediately select a smaller range.

As I mentioned 1st rd OL player taken by the Cowboys since day 1 of this franchise history has been 4 with 2 of them taking place in the last 3 years. lol
Outside of that the write up I posted focused on the top 3 draft picks and Cowboys only 3rd behind Miami and Seattle. It is just the facts.

Tough call for a number of reasons.

Bench Leary:
Bern was better all around than Leary last year.
Leary has knee concerns

Bench Bern
Leary has more upside
Leary is cheaper
The better guard probably needs to be on Free's side since he requires a lot of help and Smith does not (Tyron Island Continent)

Of course you could probably just switch the guards around to accommodate that last factor

I saw the opposite earlier in the season but maybe Tyron Island made Leary look better, or maybe it was T-Fred.. Having said that Bern looked better towards the end of the year and a big part of that could be that his health continued to improve from his last surgery.

Training camp battle no doubt but I'd hate to stunt Leary, still you want your best players on the field at the same time. I hope we draft a guard in the first few rounds though...

If Martin/some other guard is taken in the first 3 rounds which guard does he take out? I didn't think the guards were terrible last year but I haven't watched any of the games this offseason to reevaluate.

I let them all battle in camp and start the best two.

Otherwise, I let the rookie learn and probably release Bernadeau next year, or let it be an open competition again.

Hilarious.

Yes, the Cowboys are near the bottom of the league (27th) in first-round OL picked since 1989. However, they're #1 in the league in 2nd-rounders and #1 in the league in 3rd-rounders.

They're 4th in total OL picked in the first 2 rounds. They're 1st in OL picked in the first 3 rounds, in the first 4 rounds, and in the first 5 rounds. They drop back all the way to 2nd when we look at the first 6 rounds, and 4th when we consider the first 7 rounds.

But you're not the one cherry-picking.

Keep it on topic without calling each other out . If someone's post or grammar offends you its better to ignore then to be benched.

Bench them both. Bern and Leary are back ups on a good OL. Martin will start at one OG spot and Cowboys will draft another OL, God willing. Su'a Filo in the 2nd is what I would do. Shore up the OL then address the other side of the LOS. Easley in the 3rd would be sweet.

I wouldn't bring Waters back, unless the plan is to cut ties with Free. Last year, in limited time, he helped us. This year, he is a progress stopper.

Free is in his last year here. Even if he transforms himself, my guess would be that he would be traded somehow.

I wouldn't see Waters at a progress stopper, I would see him as a player who could help give us a dynamite offensive line this year. Leary still has some question marks, where as Waters makes everyone around him better, right now.
