Would you rather be mediocre or just plain bad?

Maybe in your mind we've had no chance, but the last couple years have down to week 17 win and you're in. I don't know about you, but that's still a chance.

Not really. 1 playoff win in 17 years says no where near a chance to me. How about get to the NFC conference before we start talking about chance.

You not only have to suck....you have to suck at the right time..Indy knew when to suck they got Luck..

You've obviously missed my point, but ok. :D

Regardless of how many playoff wins we've had over the past 17 years, I'd rather have a CHANCE to win a Superbowl then NO CHANCE, ok? That's just me.

For draft purposes I'd rather they tanked the rest of the year and drafted DL, OL, QB and safety... And LB,,, and RB. We really do suck.

Only if you believe in the Jerry Jones pipe dream scenario of "making the tournament and praying for a miracle...hey it worked for New York"

I believe in making it to the playoffs and giving it a shot. I wouldn't call NY's accomplishment a miracle when it happened twice.

At least bad can get people fired. Top draft picks are good too. Would love to be Colts bad for a season or 2 just to nuke this team.

Dallas has a terrible cancer, at the heart the problem is that the "self lisenced" GM destroys any chemistry anyone has come up over the last 20 sum odd years near 2 Decades uuuuhhggg wince*.......Charlie Brown.

You obviously always at least want to be playing meaningful games in December and we have been doing that for the past 8 years (not counting 2010) but at the same time this is starting to feel that it's as good as it gets with this team, specially with Garrett so I would be all for a 5-11 year if we get another coach + a great draft pick, that's assumig of course we get a proven winner in town. I really believe that with a good HC this is a playoff team year in and year out.

Many Cowboys fans here may say with bravado that "I'd rather my team go 3-13 and not give me false hope than go 8-8 and break my heart every December."

I'm sure that if or when such a 3-13 season happened, they'd all suddenly be talking differently instead.

This team is different. This isnt its first 8-8 finish.....I would be fine with 8-8 if it was romos 2 or 3 year starting......we peaked somewhere with this group. And they can't get over that hump........

YES!!!!!!! I would be happy to see 3-13. It's suppose to be a great year to draft a QB!!! New QB. High 1st rounder,,,,,it's a gamble.......but if you hit........you got.a good team for the next decade.....

Except for the tiny detail that that happens once every 20 years or so.

I agree with this...............we have a couple of star players mixed in with scrubs.................couple that with terrible coaching..................you get 500 every season.

As Emmitt said, "We had some diamonds, but we had a lotta cow poo poo around it, and the diamonds was mixed in with the poo poo...it just all look like poo poo."

Wilson, kapeornick, RgIII, luck, tannehill few others.......the game has changed, It favors the QB position even more.

Romo is good , no doubt.....but his time is coming to an end. He has never won a Super Bowl......why hold on to him as he just ages???

To finish 8-8???

So, What are You going to do? Go ahead, Sign a free agent. That's fine ; But i would rather draft one. Build around him......you can build quicker and easier these days,,,,,

All I'm saying is that tanking to spend a "high first round pick" on a qb who will make you good for a decade never happens. Most of the time you get Vicks, Leafs, Russells, Bradfords and Carrs. Were those teams guaranteed dynasties?

No. And , your right, it is a gamble..........but, The only other way to get a QB is trade or FA.

And IMHO, Romo, is just about done in Dallas unless he starts winning a few playoff games....

At this point, For this particular team, It wouldn't bother me to lose a lot instead of going 8--8.

We got a lot of promising young players........but romo, witten, ware spencer a few others.......their time is now....and it's closing quickly......

I just want to beat the Eagles, Giants, and Skins at every opportunity.

Successfully building a team comes as much from the men doing it as draft position. Finishing 5-11 wouldn't give me any more optimism for the future.

Good point. But, I would see as an opportunity .......to build a new identity . New guys. And maybe, just maybe.....u know, maybe........we win a playoff game. Remember that? Teams do it all the time......

Do you guys think we will win one this year???

Me either. ;;;;;;; ............... Gut it!!!

I think many of us agree this team is good enough to get another 8 and 8 record. Maybe. I wouldn't be surprised by 7 and 9 either. In any event, we're mediocre as opposed to just plain bad. We're not going 1 and 15 like in '89, and it's unlikely we'll go 5 and 11 like in the Campo years (though not impossible -- scary thought).
So anyway, that begs the question. Are you glad we're not exactly horrible? Someone posted in another thread that we're 15th in the power rankings. That sounds about right; we're middle of the pack. We're not the worst, but we're a long way from the best. We're smack dab in the middle of that bell curve. Is that any consolation that there are a bunch of teams worse than us? Or would it be better to just get it over with and to suck so that we get high draft picks? I know in school at C sucks, but beats the pants off an F.

Does it even matter? We did get to celebrate 8 wins last season, and 5 so far this season. Is it a glass half full situation that we're not the worst or is it just a "**** it" situation where anything other than being championship calibre team blows? I put the question out there.

Don't worry, when Romo leaves , we will be 5/11 again until we find another franchise QB.

The identity will come from whoever is running the show for the next eight years. All our top QB's have come when we've had top shelf men running the organization. Not a coincidence. Campo et al wouldn't have found Romo even if he was already on the roster.
