Would you rather have an offensive or a defensive minded HC to replace McCarthy

I'm just curious, what would you rather have running the Cowboys for their next HC?
- An offensive minded HC like Andy Reid, Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVay?
- A defensive minded HC like Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh or Demeco Ryans?
- a special teams minded HC?
Or a walk around HC like Philly has?

We need a smart, young, innovative offensive mind. HC or OC matters not to me as long as he is completely in charge of the Offensive scheme and play calling, HC needs to be someone who won't be a yes man to the owner and will bring accountability and discipline and focus to a team desperately lacking it

Why get a defensive coach? Quinn the guy everybody loves now always has trash defenses as a head coach so what's the point?

If we are to do anything in the playoffs with Dak, we need to build a great defense and have a solid running game. Dak isn't an elite QB, but he is good enough to win with if we have a top dense and running game. You'll have a better chance at building a top defense than getting a QB like Mahomes.

I want a coach who's willing to convince the Jones' to draft a 22 yr old 1st Rd QB with excellent mobility and running skills. Dan Quinn is the exact same guy from last yr to this year but somehow he's transformed into a great coach. Hmmmmm....

This is a good point (but maybe not in the way you meant it.)

Quinn is a football coach whose teams have an identity and winning mindset. He surrounds himself with good coaches. Players love him and many see their careers flourish under him. That's his responsibility as head coach moreso than a particular scheme or unit.

Therefore, we should be looking for a guy who is a great coach and leader regardless of whether he coaches O or D.

Give me Aaron Glenn. Don't care what he coaches.

Fur sure, as bad as yesterday was, he was playing with a severely injured team, and he got his defence to a 15 win season. Give me Glenn at HC and let him choose his staff (ideally Anthony Lynn at OC).

I don’t think it really matters which. All 3 options have shown to be successful in the NFL. The main thing is to have a competent staff with a strong HC.

Dan Campbell and Bill Belichick are 2 other examples of successful walk around HC. Oh, and Jimmy Johnson.

Defensive minded coach with a good QB wins championships.
Outside of Bill Belichick you have to go back to Pete Carroll and Seattle 11 years ago. Out of the last 15 years, 9 were offensive head coaches.

Except for the last 5 years
I don’t think so. Andy Reid has had Spagnola as his DC with Maholmes as QB. Without the latter getting KC to up their D in the playoffs I don’t think they would have 3 SBs in the last five years year. I think it’s more important to have a strong D w/ good QB than a offensive minded head coach like Reid or McVay.

Defense all the way. An innovative offensive mind is wasted with Dak's limitations. He needs someone who can let him play in a simple offense.

I would calmly say.....

1. Cowboys franchise has been built on Defenses....Doomsday.....No Name
2. All five chips came with defense minded coaches
3. Top defenses and running game still win SB's

So I'll go with a defense minded coach.....seems to work for this franchise.....or it did at one time
