Newman is:

- old for the time he played in the pros
- has really only one good season behind him
- will demand a lot of money
- has some injury issues (gets hurt quite a bit to much IMO)
- i am not so sure about the statement that newmans presence enables the defense to play much better. we had good games last year with him we had bad ones with him (where he also gave up alot of yds). we had good games this year without him and also a bad game without him.

Newman will demand a lot of money. To me it's not(!) a no-brainer to sign him. With the defense playing like against miami and chicago i am not so sure that you need that kind of CB for the defense to being dominant. Also I am not so sure about the "fact" that newman is a game changer. he is illustrated as that by many of his fans, but to me he is not that game changing player i would expect when i had to pay him that kind of money we are going to have to pay for him (something aroung 10mio/year i guess).

It is really worth a thought to invest the money somewhere else and let newman walk after the 2008 season.

Ken Griffey Jr., Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, Jason Giambi, Grant Hill, Bill Walton, Kevin Brown, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Terrell Davis, Allan Houston, Greg Oden, Chris Webber, Carl Pavano, Curt Schilling, Deshuan Foster, Kerry Wood, Terry Glenn, Mark Prior and many more....

All 3 of those guys have played for damned near 20 years. God forbid they can't play until the day they go to the ground.

And clearly Greg Oden's injury is a result of old age rather then just a freak occurance. Being like 19 and all, Im sure his body is already starting to break down.

twentyone, there are about 8000 things wrong with your post but I will concentrate on the obvious fallacies: Newman has had about 3 really good to great years; age is LESS an issue then time on the machine; has had basically NO INJURY issues untill this year. EVERY ONE of our coaches over the last 4 years have mentioned how important TNew is to our D but YOU KNOW BETTER?

Henry has had a great couple of games, but eventually he'll face a speedy receiver.

So the plan is to ditch Newman and have Henry and Reeves playing corner? And then maybe draft a guy that won't be ready for 2 to 3 years?

Sign Newman, draft your future stud CB, let him play nickel and learn for a couple of years. Newman doesn't have to be a star, just a pretty dang good CB, that's all I ask.

I think we play him as soon as possible. We can keep Henry/Reeves as our NICK/Dime backs.

After this year isn't he a free agent? Usually players tend to always keep getting injured once they start having problems. Would we be better served letting him walk and put the $$ towards someone more durable ? I have no idea who'll be available but it is starting to scare me w/ him. This reminds me of the year that Deion had that toe problem and we kept on waiting for him to get healthy.

Would you stop breathing air if you were charged for it? :bang2:

I don't care if you did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, the eduncan impersonation isn't working. :D
