Would you trade a #1 pick for Steve Smith?

There are two reasons you cannot even begin to compare a trade for Steve Smith and the trade for Roy Williams.

First, Steve Smith has actually been a super star in this league and has been one of the top WRs for some time. Roy has not.

Second, Roy W. has upside...he's still a young guy. Steve Smith would probably light it up for 2-3 years with a change of scenery and a decent QB.

I want more than 2-3 years out of a #1 draft pick.

I agree with this Wayne.

I would just add that if you do go out and get Steve Smith, you are back in the same boat you were when Terrell Owens was here and most likely, even worse as Steve Smith has been known to actually attack teammates and severely berate members on the Coaching Staff.

He is a heck of a player but he is not what this team needs anyway.

Like I said, I am in the minority, but I never really saw what was wrong with a lineup of Witten, Crayton, Austin, Hurd and Bennett.

With Carolina going nowhere and probably a few years from having a franchise QB again, I wonder if the Panthers are open to dealing Steve Smith. Smith is having a down year, but I put that on a terrible Delhomme.

I know the Cowboys are only a year removed from the Roy Williams disaster, but Smith is exactly the type of player that the offense needs -- a field-stretching WR. With RW then becoming a #2 receiver, Witten up the middle and the running game what it is, that becomes a pretty imposing offense.

There does come a point where it's just throwing assets into a leaky bucket (the Joey Galloway deal), but I don't quite think this team is there.

Well, I would trade half of my turkey sandwich for him...and that may be a stretch.

Definitely not a #1 pick for him.... a 3rd - 5th.... would be something to consider.

Simply because ONE Player is not the problem with this team - I say no.

One WR wont put us over the hump.

One focused, disciplined set of (current) players will take us further than any crazy #1 pick trade acquisition.

5 years ago, maybe, but not now. He has lost a step. I see him play just about every week. He is still one of the top receivers in the league, but he doesn't have the same burst and also drops catchable passes ala TO.

This board is always chirping about this reciever or that reciever losing a step. But, when Roy came here everybody was on some, "give him a shot hes 27" bull. PLEASE

And Roy has no upside. Are you people serious?

I really like that Sims-Walker from jacksonville as long as he matures some.

You, of all people, have nothing to chirp about at WR. Your hero isn't on pace for a 600 yard season.

Only if he becomes a shutdown corner or ball hawk safety.

Why would you want to trade a first round pick for a receiver that is 30 years old and has a somewhat questionable demeanor.

No, I'd rather have T.O. back than have Steve Smith here. I don't care what his production, the guy is a drama queen. Worse than T.O., and I CAN'T STAND T.O.!

id say no, id like to see them spend some quality high round picks on O-Line...not wrs or lbs....due to popular belief i think our receiving core is just fine

I don't know about the receiving corps yet although I think it will be fine. But you are on the money about preparing the OL for the future. We may already be a year behind schedule on that. We'll see.

I'll be disappointed if we don't either obtain or draft a quality center to develop. And we need a tackle and another backup hopefully eventual starting guard as well. Big deal here IMO.

There is a reason for that. What is the reason that Roy won't have 1000 yards this year? He has a Pro Bowl quarterback and tight end. sorry
