Would you trade a #1 pick for Steve Smith?

Good Lord, we have the #1 ranked offense in the NFL and people want to trade another 1st rounder for a WR:bang2:

What about Miles Austin??? You know, the guy that just set the franchise record for receiving. Are we putting him back on the bench now or is Roy going to the bench, the guy we gave up a 1, 3, 6 for???

What we need to do is forget about a WR and trade a 1st rounder for a ballhawk FS/SS , because Hamlin blows and he aint getting any better folks.

If we trade for anybody it would only make sense to get elite talent for our secondary or youth for our O-Line. We don't need more offensive weapons.

There is a reason for that. What is the reason that Roy won't have 1000 yards this year? He has a Pro Bowl quarterback and tight end. sorry

Yeap there sure is....he's dropped almost as many as he's caught.

Trading away a 1st two years in a row.......just doesn't make sense.

Yeah, the reason is, he's lost it. He's an aging, over the hill WR. On pace for 40 receptions, 573 yards, and 2.667 TDs. Let's be generous and give him 3.

Roy Missed a game due to a blow to the ribs. He has better stats in 4 games than TO has in 6. I think he will get 1000 yards and between 7 and 8 scores.

Look at you calling Tony a Pro Bowl QB. You bash him at every turn and talk about how he is over rated and not any good. Now, he's a Pro Bowl QB.

Does it hurt?

I'd give up a 1st round pick for being the least penalized team and having the least amount of turnovers.

If this team cleans up the mental mistakes, which I doubt they do, but still, than we're good enough to beat any team in the league.

The only player I trade a #1 for is Joe Thomas.

Bingo. I'd be on that bandwagon in a hurry.

I'd give a #1 for Thomas, or maybe another great young OT, or maybe a great, young, ball hawking safety but that's it. We don't need to give up a #1 this year for a WR.

With Carolina going nowhere and probably a few years from having a franchise QB again, I wonder if the Panthers are open to dealing Steve Smith. Smith is having a down year, but I put that on a terrible Delhomme.

I know the Cowboys are only a year removed from the Roy Williams disaster, but Smith is exactly the type of player that the offense needs -- a field-stretching WR. With RW then becoming a #2 receiver, Witten up the middle and the running game what it is, that becomes a pretty imposing offense.

There does come a point where it's just throwing assets into a leaky bucket (the Joey Galloway deal), but I don't quite think this team is there.
I would have last year instead of Roy....but not now. We have already cost ourselves enough regarding the future. I like having the picks.

Steve Smith is a tinier Roy Williams.

Just no consistency.

Wow, they don't even belong in the same sentence...Smith is preposterously better than RW. But he is getting older and I would not give a #1.

You lost me when you said, "...of Carolina". Now the Steve Smith of the NYG, I would in a heartbeat. The Giants got a steal with that guy. With Manningham, (the guy I wanted to get with the 3rd rd. pick they traded), Nicks, Barden, etc., they are set at WR for several years now. They are also set at LT, with the pick of Will Beatty, UConn., this draft. Another guy I wanted.

We have got to not only stop trading picks, but pick the best players when we DO pick. Of course, that would mean firing the owner, & that's not happening. Sometimes, as a Cowboys fan, I feel hopeless until the old fart dies.

I agree.
The comments this preseason by some here saying their WRs were sad led me to say they were actually pretty deep, young, and with plenty of upside. I'll stand by that. I'm also with you on Beatty, thought I'm not completely sure he will play LT for many years.

...about #1s and WRs this year unless someone is bringing Fitzgerald or Johnson (Texans) to the table.

(2) young players who have proven it in this league. We all know this isn't going to happen so let's give it a rest.

Instead of looking for a savior from the waiver and trade wire why don't we focus on having the team work on the fundamentals of football.

We can all start with the penalties. I'm sure if the team worked on that we may find the team in position to eek out a few more wins by not beating themselves.

This doesn't cost any draft choices and it is the jobs of those who have already been hired and are already on the payroll.

Everybody just has to do their job from the coaching staff on down to the players.

There are two reasons you cannot even begin to compare a trade for Steve Smith and the trade for Roy Williams.

First, Steve Smith has actually been a super star in this league and has been one of the top WRs for some time. Roy has not.

Second, Roy W. has upside...he's still a young guy. Steve Smith would probably light it up for 2-3 years with a change of scenery and a decent QB.

I want more than 2-3 years out of a #1 draft pick.

Agree with all of this... 89 would be in line for the HALL if he played with a better QB and a more interesting coach. Also, don't agree with another thread that says he has lost a step. What he has is a QB that has become below averge, and a team that wants to run it 30 times because of the QB.

Hell to the no! A 3rd @ best. Hopefully, JJ's learned his lesson about picking up volatile, 30-something WRs with a limited shelf-life. I like his play on the field but I think he's more of a locker room "cancer" than TO ever was...and even his on-field play has seemed to decline (or maybe it's just #17)!
