Would you trade Allen for Carr?

So if they select Young in the draft you think they should still hang onto Carr? Now that would be stupid.

No stupid would be thinking that you can put these kind of words in my mouth. I don't care what they do with Carr so long as they don't trade him for an over the hill Guard. I mean, come on, you seriously think that the Texans would receive no better then an offer of Larry Allen (Huge contract BTW) for David Carr? Why would they do this? Give me one good reason why the Texans would ever entertain taking on the cap for a player that may be able to help them for a period of maybe a year or two at best? This of course assumes that Allen will be able to play at an acceptable level and not get cut straight out. How much business sense does that make?

I didn't put words into your mouth, I asked you the question (see the ? after the statement) that was the logical conclusion based on your comments.

I'll ask it again a little differently: Do you think the Texans would keep Carr and his huge cap hit if they drafted Vince Young?

As to Allen, his cap hit would be $3.5M in 2006 and $2.5M in 2007, that is a lot less than Carr's if they keep him. Also you have to add in Young's cap hit since he will be the #1 pick if they take him. You don't take a guy #1 and sit him for a year or two behind another guy. He might start the season playing behind Carr but it wouldn't be long before he was behind center and that $8M cap hit of Carr's is sitting on the bench.

In the meantime they could have had a solid OG in Allen PLAYING for less than half of that.

I don't think Allen represents an upgrade not even for the Texans and even if it were an upgrade we are talking 1 year at the most maybe 2 years. No team is going to trade a 4th year player for a 12 year vet on the downside of his career. I also think the Texans will take Reggie Bush even though I think they would be better off trading the overall #1 for more high round picks so that they can address many problems they have on both sides of the ball.

I would trade Allen for Carr IF I have given up on Henson and Romo but I haven't.

Right now any trade for LA needs to include draft picks, young OL, or a 25 year old proven WR like Andre Johnson:)

I don't know if they would or not. I can see the value of doing this, if only for the simple reason that if Houston drafts Young it consititues admission of the fact that they ruined Carr. In that situation, I think it does make sense to possibly keep Carr and sit Young for a year or two. He will still be a tradable commodity IMO. To me, the smartest thing Houston could do is protect Carr and trade down but hey, it's not my call.

The discussion you and I are having is irrelivant to what Houston does with the #1 pick. From my perspective, it's about what Houston could and should get for Carr if there going to move him. Nobody is going to trade Carr for Allen. Allen's contract is prohibative to say the least. Allen's cap number for 06 is something like 7.5 million dollars with a Roster bonus of something like 2 million due in March. It's not 3.5 by any stretch. If we cut Allen, we would save approximatly 3 million dollars twords the cap this upcoming season. I believe that we could find a nice replacement for less then 3 million dollars this year. It would not make sense for us to keep in past his Roster Bonus. It would make more sense for us to get a trade worked out before that, which would mean that Houston would then have to take on his entire contract. Again, how would this be a good move on Houston's part? They would be much smarter to just wait and see if we cut him. They could then go and try to sign him if they wanted him and still trade Carr. No how, no way does this trade work for Houston but it's like a fairy tale ending kinda thing for us. Nice to imagine but not very realistic IMO.
