Would you trade Parsons a la Herschel Walker?

Why trade a generational defensive player who the Cowboys can thank the Panthers and Broncos for for gifting him . Once in a lifetime type player who elevates everyone around him ( Armstrong & Sam Williams ) benefit a great deal to be specific playing on the line with him . Would not trade him for anyone in the NFL .

Such a trade would suddenly change us from pretenders into contenders. Only a dummy would refuse a deal like that. If Quinn left and Parsons followed him, we'd be stuck without him, anyhow. Consider that, ok?! o_O

Yes, if I had a bad team going nowhere and needing a complete personnel makeover to fit what the new coach needs for his system. That’s why Walker was traded. If Dallas was a playoff team, a young talented team that Jimmy thought he could win with, he would have never traded Walker.

But Dallas, while still needing some improvements is definitely a team on the rise, talented and poised to be a perennial playoff contender. Trading your best player now would be stupid…..for what? The draft picks to use on WR, OG, DT?

Would I trade him for significantly more than he is worth? Of course.

He is worth a lot though. To get significantly more than that would be a ludicrous trade.

Jimmy did not think that Walker was a good rb as he had no wiggle to his game thus the trade, big difference.

Stop this insanity. There will never be another Herschel Walker trade. What made that trade so great for us was that Jimmy Johnson was sneaky. It could have been a mediocre trade that bumped us up from terrible to mediocre if it hadn't been for Johnson's sly clause where it said if he cut a player obtained in the trade, he would get a draft pick in his place. Johnson never had any intention of keeping any of those players. He wanted the draft picks, so he just kept cutting players. The only Vikings player we kept for a while was Ike Holt because he showed exceptional play. All the other ex-Vikes got cut, and Johnson ran with the draft pick.

You can't do that again, and, frankly, the Vikings were pretty stupid to fall for that. Without that cut-a-player-get-a-draft-pick clause, it would have been just an okay trade that improved the team from a 1-win team to a 7-win team, end of story. It was the bonanza of draft picks, obtained by Johnson sneakily, that turned it into a blockbuster for us.

You ain't doing that today. No one would fall for it. Even today's Vikes wouldn't be as gullible as the 90s Vikes were.

Walker was the only high value player we had at that time. Vikings thought they were close to the promised land and thought Walker would put them over the top. They were wrong. Parsons gives you another 2 or 3 wins a year. That puts you in the playoffs based on our other talent. Unless you get a top 3 young QB, you gotta keep him a Cowboy.

Would we trade three first round picks 3 2nd round picks, plus a few roster holders from the bottom of the roster for the best defensive player in the game currently on another team? Pick your favorite. Not me. Yes, as a Cowboy, I’d hesitate on that trade with the Bills who have good odds of picking 31 or 32 for year 1 of the trade.

So as an outsider, who gets the best end of a similar trade for Parsons? Thus, I conclude that make that trade. I will be a villain for awhile. I’m now trying to win with my DEs of Lawrence, Fowler, Williams plus Armstrong knowing the volume of young talent will give us an advantage every year for 3 years…. Almost 1/3 a decade.

Who is to say he won't have a career like RW31?.....First 3 seasons he looked all world....then fell off a cliff. Kind of think people are over rating #11.

You never know....look how Seattle just bent Denver over in the Russell Wilson trade. RW was toast....and Seattle still got picks for him.

  • LB Jesse Solomon
  • LB David Howard
  • CB Issiac Holt
  • DE Alex Stewart
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1990
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1990
  • Minnesota's 6th round pick in 1990
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1991 (conditional on cutting Solomon)
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1991 (conditional on cutting Howard)
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Holt)
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1992 (condition met by trading away Nelson)
  • Minnesota's 3rd round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Stewart)
This is what Dallas got for the Walker Trade. I love Parson but yeah I would for those top picks.

There will still be some lopsided trades, just no more bonanzas like the Walker trade. I think Minnesota overpayed for QB Sam Bradford, who isn't even on their team anymore.

Would you make that trade now? I think it would be a no-brainer....you do it.

We have seen what a great dynasty can be built having all that draft capital...

Comments?
No.

When walker was traded the team had no talent. It sucked. Needed draft capital to rebuild

We are 4-1. Playoff team last year.

Parsons is type of player you build around. Not trade so you go fishing and maybe catch another one
