I wouldn't make the trade but if Greg Ellis can make that transition Peppers can do it without a doubt.

Of course, it would have to accompany a move to the 4-3 to reach the full potential of a Ware/Peppers combo, so I would try to find some outside linebackers in the draft. It might need an adjustment period, but if you have Ware/Ratliff/Igor/Peppers on the DL, your defense is going to be very good regardless.

LOL @ that.

Ware & Peppers standing up > Ware and Peppers in 3 point stance.

3/4 gives them much more opportunities to make plays.

It also provides opposing teams opportunities to isolate one in coverage. Peppers is tall and not very fluid, do you want him one on one with a TE? Any time one isn't rushing, it's a waste of their talent. The Giants have shown you can be exotic with a 4-3. Send Peppers and Ware at the quarterback every play. It takes Ratliff back into a more natural position as a 4-3 UT where he can get more one on ones (where a lot of his sacks came from, in a 4 man line) and not have 2-3 guys wailing on an undersized NT almost every play. It strengthens the interior run D that was average last year, since Igor and Ratliff both have very good strength and girth for taking on one blocker. Peppers has played DE his whole life and Ware grew up a DE and had plenty of his sacks with his hand in the dirt in Dallas.

Granted, this is a far out situation and half the draw for Peppers is he wants to play in a 3-4, but that's what I would do if it were my team.

Newman has more effect on the outcome of games than Peppers would. No dice...

Ellis never played OLB either, until Parcells came along. He ended up doing ok. Peppers is athletically superior to Ellis. I see no reason why he can't make the same position switch and be successful.

The only reason I would not want Peppers is his contract. It is going to be a big one. I would rather spend that money on Ware and the draft picks.

Why I would get rid of Newman....He has been oft injured the last 2 seasons. He talks the talk, but seldom walks the walk. We claim he is our best shutdown corner, but I don't know. Sure he has moments when he plays good. However, from what I have seen, whenever teams want to attack him, they tend to have success.......at least recently. But mainly, I want to remove his mouth from the team. He talks way too much to the media about his teammates, coaches, and the style of play. But, we definitely need him around for at least one more season, while we groom our young CBs, and hopefully add one or two more in the draft.

I know it gets boring in the offseason but ummmmm no..... Why give up our only veteran CB who when is healthy is one of the best... Yes he does get injured and yes he may not get very many turnovers, but hes an elite corner back and IMO Peppers is on the decline...

Yeah those 14 sacks he got last year, as pretty much the only legit pass rush threat in Carolina, really show he's on the decline.

That said there is no way I'd EVER trade Newman for Peppers. Pass rushers, IMO, are much easier to find than great corners.

I agree......Peppers won't be the one getting toasted for TDs by rookie WRs.

Let's say we do make this trade.........

Then in the draft, we go after Jarron Gilbert, Lawrence Sidbury, Jason Williams, Sammie Lee Hill, Jonathan Casillas, Spencer Adkins, Brice McCain, Mark Parson

DE: Gilbert, Igor, Hatcher, Bowen, Spears
DT: Ratliff, Hill
OLB: Ware, Peppers, Spencer, Sidbury, Polk
ILB: James, Brooking, Carpenter, Williams
CB: Scandrick, Jenkins, Ball, McCain, Parson
S: Hamlin, Sensabaugh, Casillas, Adkins, Brown/Davis

I think we could definitely do some damage defensively with this lineup. I also feel that the subtraction of Newman and Ellis would be a good thing for the chemistry of our defense.

do me a favor and tell me how you're going to pay the secondary now, ware, peppers and so forth AND eat the cap hit for newman.

i swear to god we need a MADDENZONE so people can live in fantasy land and quit being so frustrating to those of us who miss talking realistic football.

Didn't Jerry just give Newman a new 50 million contract last year?

yea, but when we're surrounded by trade-boners little things like considering reality fall by the wayside when someone doens't like a player by things usually said in the media which are seldom true, but since written they fuel an unexplainable hate they have for a player who will be trade bait anytime the subject comes up.

it's amazing the value of our "bad player" when these topics hit.

Pro- you get a good pass rush defense.....d ware and peppers = unstoppable

Con- you lose your best corner

But i would make this deal because i feel that if we signed Ken Lucas or Rolle and drafted a corner in the 2nd round we would be ok.

Terence cant seem to stay healthy and he also has a huge contract.

What do you guys think

quicker then you can blink, TNEW is overrated and overpaid.

Peppers had 14.5 sacks this season ,most hes ever had in a season......clearly on the decline........

i still wouldnt make that trade though...pass rushers are easier to find than good CBs

Thats kinda what I keep saying about those saying TO is on the decline. Sure maybe by numbers, but he still had solid production. Not on the decline to say the guy is washed up.

I mean 1K+ Yards and 10 TD's, most WR's would love to bring that to the bargaining table come contract year.

Yes.

I'd take Peppers any day over Newman.

Newman talks better than he plays.

Hell no. He's going to the Patriots anyway. Rather see Anthony Spencer in.

If we did not have Ware, I would do it in a second. But we do, so there would be no reason to weaken the secondary.
