Nope. T-New has said quite enough lately. But a shutdown CB is needed more than an athletic DE.

actually they both work well homey...

remember they say a good pass rush can make a suspect secondary look good... :)

thanks for the input....but peppers could be rejuvenated to be playing with ware...i mean giants pass rush is going to kill ours next yearr

could is the key word. Theres no guarantee Peppers can transition to LB in the 3-4 regardless of how physically talented he is

I hate it when people think Newman is injury prone..

He hasnt been until the last 2 seasons, 9 games missed not to mention the ones he played in but was hobbled. Don't forget this is a "what have you done lately" league and at 31 he's not getting younger

Peppers had 14.5 sacks this season ,most hes ever had in a season......clearly on the decline........

i still wouldnt make that trade though...pass rushers are easier to find than good CBs

And a whopping 2.5 the year before. Don't even mention the fact that we havent even worked out a long term deal for Ware. If the skins can pay haynesworth 41 million guaranteed how much is peppers going to want? Uncapped years or not you can't afford to pay multiple players 14-15 mil a season

the 2.5 was an injury year something with his foot

CB needs and skill of these 2 players aside, which I'd still keep Newman anyways, there's a thing called the cap. That big signing bonus Newman got last year would accelerate into our cap faster and more impactful than a mushroom bullet in your asssss.

"I'm still the same guy," Peppers insisted to a small group of reporters two weeks ago. "The numbers are just not the same. It's in the books, so I'm not going to sit around and dwell on it."

Peppers insists that there are no hidden injuries hampering him and that the unnamed illness he suffered in training camp is not a factor in his performance. Peppers' knee injury, suffered in Week 15 against Seattle, doesn't begin to explain his sack drought.

FALSE.. we have been trying to find a pass rusher for years and we havent.. but we have found about 3 corners. Scandrick ,jenkins, evan oglesby.

But when you have to good pass rushers you just need average corners.
Like Pittsburg.. they have all average corners but they have a deadly pass rush which allows the corners to look great...

look at ryan clark... he is now a good safety because of their pass rush but when he played for the Commanders he wasnt

He's a Raven and is nothing more than a ST player.

you cant look at a select amount of seasons you have to look at the entire career. Because tom brady missed 15 games in 2 seasons does that mean hes injury prone?

Newman's been severely hampered by injuries 2 seasons in a row. If that's not injury prone, it's cutting it pretty close.

I'd take Peppers over Newman any day of the week. A stud pass rusher is considerably more valuable and difficult to find than a CB.

Pro- you get a good pass rush defense.....d ware and peppers = unstoppable

Con- you lose your best corner

But i would make this deal because i feel that if we signed Ken Lucas or Rolle and drafted a corner in the 2nd round we would be ok.

Terence cant seem to stay healthy and he also has a huge contract.

What do you guys think

I would do it.

First a pass rush is much more important than good corners. And it can compensate for not so good ones.

Second what i have seen from newman he is not a reliable cover corner. in the last important games you could count on him giving away the important play. He is not a corner other teams fear. He is one of those corners others go after if they need a big play.

The only thing is that we already missing henry and to "lose" another cb is really too much. RIght now we are thin at cb and imo need one FA and one thru the draft. IF we miss another veteran in this system we might have to sign a 2nd fa or have to draft 2 cbs. I don't think we can accomplish that.

But Peppers for an injury plagued Newman who resists to turn and look for the ball on a regular basis ?

In a heartbeat.

No for various reasons... but I think the one most people forget about is that Peppers is not a LB has not played LB and there is no garantee that he can play LB...now it is assumed that he can and perhaps he can but by no means is it a given.

good point Zax, and I agree

in Vic Carucci's column on nfl.com, he has a an nfl personnel person commenting on the potential deal of Peppers to Pats and says it will be a huge bust because Peppers has no ability to play a 3-4 OLB position...

"This is a guy who totally went on strike two years ago because he wasn't happy with his contract," said the player personnel source, who requested anonymity. "He's also very long (in the torso), which is not ideal for a 3-4 outside linebacker. And he can't drop into coverage. He's very stiff.

people think because they saw him play basketball at UNC 6-7yrs a go or so that it must mean he can line up anywhere on the field and do anything, when the truth is he probably cannot and belongs at DE

We couldn't do it even if we wanted to.

Newman is an elite corner and after him we have question marks with high potential.

No way on earth could we make this trade.

If it were at all feasible with salary cap considerations and the Panthers would accept, you'd have to be a freaking out of your mind to say no. Not only is Peppers better, younger, and plays a more important position, he's not as injury prone as Newman.

Of course, it would have to accompany a move to the 4-3 to reach the full potential of a Ware/Peppers combo, so I would try to find some outside linebackers in the draft. It might need an adjustment period, but if you have Ware/Ratliff/Igor/Peppers on the DL, your defense is going to be very good regardless.
