Cut ties with Dak or make him the most ridiculously overpaid backup QB in the HISTORY of the NFL for a year. DO NOT make the mistake of entering ANOTHER season with Dak as the starter.

If Dak is released, he has a $60 million cap hit whether we keep him or release him.
Therefore, the Cowboys want to sign him to an extension to prevent that big of a hit.
Going into the Playoffs, it was almost guaranteed that he was going to get Top of the Market salary.
Now, with his disastrous performance, there is no way the Cowboys can justify paying him that nor any where near the $50 million range.
His last contract averaged $40 million a year. In those 4 years he has 1 playoff Wild Card win.
So, do you let Dak play his last year and absorb the $60 million cap hit?
Give him an a $50 Million+ extension?
Would you like him to resign but only on a sub $50 million deal?
Dak doesn't have much leverage for a trade because no team can justify to their fanbase giving Dak a premium deal.
But the Cowboys don't have much leverage either given the Cap hit.
The Cowboys fanbase will be irate if he gives Dak a premium deal which would hamper the team for the next few years.
Toss him in the bin

If he goes......then we're rebuilding. It's that simple. I'm predicting an extension. If Dak is gone, the team is being blown up, which means CeeDee will get his money, but numbers go down drastically. So offensively, we're going to look quite different.....I don't think a 9-8 gets us in the playoffs. So be ready. Jimmy G from the Raiders on his way.

The Packers were playing like crap, they were coming off a loss to the Giants. They were riding a 3 game winning streak when we faced them. They were great against us and we played our worst game of the season. We’re a terrible playoff team.
Baker Mayfield was perfect against that defense. In that 3 game winning streak against awful teams, Bryce Young had a 110 Rating. Nick Mullins(who?) had a 87.9 Rating and Justin Fields had a 97.9 Rating

For reference Dak had 89.8. So, he was 1.9 better than Nick Mullins(whoever that is) and worse than the other two world beaters than many think are busts.

Question. I know you can designate a cut for post June 1. There is no way you can do that for trades, right? Or is it just self explanatory. A post June 1 trade is just that, a post June 1 trade.
You can agree to a trade and not have it execute til June 1. But dak has a no trade clause and no reason to accept a trade. It'd be hard for a team to trade you much without agreeing to an extension with him to ensure he doesn't leave after 1 year.

A rough period could be a decade or more. Some of you think QBs capable of winning SB’s grow on trees. We don’t have a team capable of winning a Super Bowl. Our biggest problem isn’t at QB.
Our biggest problem IS at QB but we also have other issues. No doubt about that.

That's half true. They would still owe the $60MM they just get to break it up over a couple seasons so he would still be $25MM against the cap for both 2024 $ 2025.
Yes, but that is manageable. Especially with Lance on the roster at $5M and Cooper Rush available for about the same.

QB was a problem with Romo and Dak in the playoffs. But the biggest problem in the playoffs is the team and especially the defense. I don’t think we could reach a SB with any QB the way this team and defense performs in postseason.

Spin what you want but Green Bay was great on Sunday and the Cowboys were terrible in every faze. Those of you who are pinning that loss entirely on Dak, don’t like him.

Problem is if the other QB isn’t the answer you could end up in QB hell for years.
How is that different than where we are now? Or are you ok just adding one more year to the number of non championship game appearances each year?

It’s a lot different because the QB we have has been terrific in the regular season. It’s led to a lot of wins and has given the fan base hope. When you’re losing week after week with an inconsistent QB and your season is over with several games left there isn’t any hope.

I think the Cowboys have done a ton to help Dak Prescott be successful over the years. He certainly got more help than Romo. But bottom line is that no way would I ever pay a playoff losing 30 year old QB $60 million a year. Not happening. I'll roll the dice with Trey Lance. Worst case is Lance is not the answer and we're drafting for a franchise QB the following season.
The thing I can't stomach is extending Dak and watching him stink it up one more time in the playoffs. Just imagine that feeling - a final realization that Dak will never win a SB and now being stuck with him for another 3-4 seasons. I CAN'T DO IT!!!!!!!

Totally agree!! He has had a far better team behind him than Tony could have even dreamed about!

Like I said before, All that does is drive TV ratings and sell merch. That is no where close to the goal.

It's given the fan base false hope. Which always leads to extreme disappointment. Each year. Next year will be no different. We've seen this play out so many times before. The number of people who believe the Cowboys can make it to a NFCCG is the lowest in many many years. Thanks to one player. Or are you one of the small minority around here that think Dak can finally get to a NFCCG?

You seem to think that if the Cowboys change QB's that automatically means they will start losing. It doesn't. Mayfield. Flacco. Stroud. Love. Many more can get you to the playoffs. Rudolph for crying out loud. They won't wreck you team by getting $50M+ per year either. Browning had a winning season. Make a move. Try something. Anything. See what Lance can do next summer. Dak has a proven track record and it's not good.

Just trade Parsons, get some 1st-round picks, and then trade up in the 2025 or 2026 draft and get the best QB available early in the 1st round.

But JJ may not have the patience at his age to roll the dice on a rookie QB, or one of these young Free Agents.

So, maybe JJ can negotiate a less-than-max deal with Dak...
