Wow, Pat Summerall thinks Parcells might coach again

Didn't Pat Summerall offer to do play-by-play a few years back (after Madden went to MNF) but only if it were Cowboys home games?

Class guy, and a Cowboy at heart. :D

He's saying right now on 103.3 that Parcells has told him how much he still is a football coach at heart and he won't be happy unless he's coaching football. Pat thinks he wouldn't come back for just any job, but that he would for the right one... Like the Giants.

Wow.

Wouldn't it be the ultimate irony if they fired Coughlin and chose Parcells, which allowed us to keep Red Jesus...

You think Coughlins ways got old w/ that ball club? Wait till they get hold of Parcells.

Parcells would have those guys jumping out the bus window to get away. Talk about a mutiny.

Could you imagine the already skittish Eli with Bill barking and riding him all the time.:laugh2:

On a side note, maybe it is just me, but does anyone ever get the feeling that Eli just does not love the game as much as his father or brother do?

Half the time it doesn't even look like he realizes he is on a football field. He has this glazed distant look to his eyes, like if he was listening to Bryant Gumble and Ben Stein doing a play by play of the Dolphins vs 49ers.

The best fit for him is San Diego, but if the G-Men collapse don't be surprised if BP takes the GM/HC position - the old bastad really loves coaching, and watching Dallas suceed may have lit a fire up under him.

I think that he doesn't have the intelligence necessary to appreciate the importance of his position

it's in the facial expression, note I didn't say expressions, because he has only one

I think he chose the wrong position to play

btw, did anyone really get to watch Elisha at Ole Miss? I didn't, has he always been like this?

Thing is, at that age, would it be smart to come back into a division in which you just built up an absolute juggernaut of a team? He knows how good Dallas is. Is it even worth trying to rebuild the Giants to that level, at his age?

If he came back to coaching, I'd think he'd want it to be outside the NFC East.

I agree with you. San Diego would probably be a good fit for him. Very, very weak division. The players there are in place.

I'm really glad that Jerry Jones hired Parcells. I think Parcells did many very good things during his time as the Cowboys head coach -- IMO, he righted the ship.

But who'd hire him now?

Parcells' time in Dallas seems to show that the X's and O's have passed him by - although he still seems to be strong in player acquisition and development.

I guess a team like the Chiefs could use a guy like Parcells - to get the franchise in order and to accumulate quality players.

The Raiders would be a bizarre but oddly appropriate match for Parcells, maybe.

Well Parcells alleged recent statement that he "can only be happy coaching football" (or that general idea) is the same one he made when he came back the last time. I think he's simply saying the truth hasn't changed.

Doesn't it make some sense that Bill walked away in Dallas as much because they weren't winning at the level he knew would be required for continued support of his iron-fisted ways? He said it early upon his arrival and we've been reminded again of late.

And the growing discontent last year was visible wasn't it? Amongst certain players, the local press, certainly fans on this board, even Jerry's acknowledgement of the "walking on eggshells" somewhat speaks to it.

So its not far-fetched, to me, to think Parcells left Dallas because he knew his act had worn thin more than he was out of coaching gas.

We shall see. And while I certainly respect what he did here I do not fear his influence elsewhere if he should happen to return. Frankly, I like having high quality competition, provided we are a high quality team. Hopefully THAT piece continues.

That would be alright with me. As long as we can keep Red I'm very happy.
