WR DeAndre Hopkins in the 2nd?

We need talent. Period. If that comes in the form of DeAndre Hopkins then so be it. There is more than one way to fix the offensive line that doesn't involve sending out the same terrible group from last season. Clabo, Moore and Winston will still be there after the Draft. Why anybody acts like we're handcuffed to a certain position in the Draft is beyond me. Let's not forget, both Austin and Dez missed time last year in critical moments.

We have a winner.

Hopkins is a good prospect... However we have bigger needs

There are three quality linemen in free agency that will still be there after the Draft. Needs should be irrelevant in the Draft, as much as I understand how much we all want to see the problems addressed. There are many options on the table. And it is likely BPA will be a trench player.

the choir boy route has gotten us nowhere the last decade. so i have no issues with his character.

I'm fine with drafting him... just not that soon.

Lest we forget Heyward Bey and Lloyd are also still on the market at WR.

Straight up BPA. That is the only way to go. Same method that got us players like Sean Lee (my favorite young player on the team).

Giovani Bernard is another guy I'd have no problem with in the 2nd round. The next MJD!

Not Bey. He signed with the Colts.

No, no way I would touch him in the 2nd round. To me there is a w.r in this draft who is REALLY going to surprise alot of people, even though he shouldnt. That would be Josh Boyce from TCU. Can be had in the 4th round IMO. Not saying he is going to be an all pro or anything, but certainly will become a very nice number 2 man who can stretch the field OR go over the middle.

Kid has a big future IMO.

:banghead:Why draft a WR, troubled or not? and odds are that he did not trash his own room

in the 2nd? nay

but, if they did bring this guy in, think of it this way...you want your guys to get in the heads of the other team. during home games, we could tell him to sneak over to the opposing team's hotel and **** up the rooms of the important players...they wouldn't get as much sleep and would be at a disadvantage!

Talk about intangibles!!!

Because your #2 WR is making a ridiculous amount of money and his play isn't justifying it. It's a foregone conclusion that this will be Austin's last year with the Cowboys.

Would you rather pay Austin $7 million a year, or Hopkins $760,000 a year? This would allow the Cowboys to allocate their resources with other positions, and extending cornerstone players like Dez, Lee and perhaps Carter.

It's not just about now, but improving and planning for the future.

Plus, if Hopkins or another early round WR pans out for us, it gives us leverage with Dez's possible contract negotiations.

There will be tremendous VALUE with WR's in the 2nd and 3rd round. Stick to your board, don't reach for needs unless you have closely/evenly graded players, and go from there.

QOC - quality of competition.

He faced no one in the ACC and new era scouts are factoring in all kinda saber metrics when evaluating players.

I have lot of connects at Clemson, have hung out with Boyd, Watkins, Hopkins and a slew more. With that said he comes from a family completely immersed in the 'dope boy' culture and he just doesn't burn DBs if you know what I mean.

Maybe in the 3rd but we don't need WRs, Romo could make Reality go for a 1,000 yards.

It's possible they will draft another WR early. Broadus mentioned that WR could be a surprise pick early and his latest mock that I just put up in the draft zone has us taking Hunter in the second. Last year was all about defense and if this draft is about the offense JG may feel they do need a top WR like the Falcons did when they took Julio Jones.

I agree. Hopkins is a stud. We cannot get stuck with Harris as our #2 WR next year. He is an excellent slot WR, #3, but he isn't a #2. Rookie WRs tend to struggle their first year or so and would love to have Hopkins get a year under his belt before we really need him.

I don't think he will slip to us in R2 though.

Our biggest needs are OL first and then IMO its a close second with S, DT, and WR all right there.

Actually I think Harris plays better on the outside than in the slot, so I think he'd be an ideal #2. Especially with a #1 like Bryant pulling coverage away from him.

What's the point in drafting guys in the mid rounds (Harris, Crawford, etc...) if we aren't going to try and develop them and give them a chance to start?

Not all your starters can come in the first 2 rounds.

I'd have him placed somewhere comfortably enough to take him in the second but he's not enough of a player IMO to take a WR that high. I get the BPA and I generally agree with it. But teams generally draft BPA in a tier and it's not often a player falls enough to bust a tier. Dez is an exception to that and we did draft him which so far looks to have paid off. Hopkins does not have that kind of talent although I like the player a lot. He'll be a good #2 in a couple of years. I don't expect him to have a great rookie year so he'll be in a tier with a lot of other players including trenches and S. I don't see him going to Dallas. Having said that I won't jump out of my chair and pull my hair out if we take him in the second because that's a decent round for him.

My general impression was Harris didn't catch a lot of balls or get that open from an outside position. I think he made some plays on long slants from outside. He should probably get snaps from the slot and outside next year.

He's a tweener IMO. Not that fast or tall for outside and not that quick for the slot. He reminds me of Hines Ward or a slower Steve Smith. I like the player esp returning punts. He has the feel for PRs although he's not got the optimum speed and quicks for it. I think his best best is to optimize his skills running routes and make the slot a decent home for himself until we find something better, faster, and with more quicks for the position.
