He was murdered backstage by another wrestler.

On his list one guy I almost forgot about was Stan "the Lariat" Hansen. That guy was nasty good.

Kinda...

He was stabbed by another wrestler/booker in Puerto Rico... Supposedly in or near the shower area.

The other guy claimed self defense and was exonerated, but many believe it was closer to being murder. As the story goes, Tony Atlas was suppose to testify at the trial and did not.

Brody was from the accounts I read, a real difficult guy for bookers to deal with. He wouldn't put anyone over by pin fall or submission. He had a long, long streak of being undefeated except for DQ's. Brody played by his own rules, which many did not care for.

The Brody stabbing pretty much killed pro-wrestling in Puerto Rico, which at one point was a huge pro-wrestling hotbed.

I remember Bruiser..he was a crazy man with that mad hair. I'd be afraid to be in the same room with that dude. I remember he got stabbed but I thought it was in a bar fight..oh well. Your memory is better than mine!

Funny..lots of these old time guys mentioned and listed are just big fat ole guys. Who was the guy that use to take off his cowboy boot and whoop guys over the head with it? One of those old timers....

I always loved Wahoo McDaniel.

Thanks..who would be crazy enough to tell that guy he had to put somebody over?

He was scary.

You know for a long time Austin had the rep of being a difficult guy..he did not like to put guys over and he butted heads with Vince over all that.

I think a lot of the "Cowboy" wrestlers use to do that with their boots.

I know Brody and Blackjack Mulligan use to do it.

There's a famous wrestling story out there about one time, Brody scaring the be***** out of Lex Lugar during a match. All of a sudden Brody quit "selling" Lugar's moves. He just stood there with a funny look on his face. Lugar didn't know if he PO'ed Brody or what he did wrong, so he just high-tailed it out of the ring and headed to the dresser room. Some time later he asked Brody if there was a problem and Brody gave him some sort of goofy answer. Like I said earlier it appears Bruiser Brody played by his own rules.

Yeah, I heard that too.

I think Austin isn't as "out there" as what Brody was in his day.

Plus Brody was a physically big man who could easily intimidate.

I think Steve got so big as Stone Cold that he sort of let his ego take over..it's always been and always will be that the older guys put the new guys over.

I like the guy but use to hear what an *** he was. That was not hard to believe.

I would run from Brody in any fight! He looked nuts!

Oh yes, Mil Mascaras and his "Olympic walk".

I remember the "Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiasi as putting Hulk Hogan over in his first appearance in Madison Square Garden around 1979... When Hogan was a heel.

"Akbar" died not long ago..he was in his 70's and still doing that act in small town wrestling promotions. Von Erichs...some of the saddest stuff in wrestling. I'll never forget finding out about Kerry committed suicide that he had a prosthetic foot and hid it from the fans for years. I remember his motorcycle accident but who knew he lost his foot? I sure didn't....part of the problem he was addicted to painkillers and the addiction that ultimately cost him to take his own life.

Wahoo McDaniel and the Raging Bull Manny Fernandez. My gosh, I have almost forgotten about those guys and how good they were. That is a shame on my part.

Here is Tony Atlas on Bruiser's death.

Sounds like Bruiser died because of negligent medical attention...

what a crazy story.

Jimmy Wehba{aka Skandor Akbar}passed away last year and was from the DFW area if im not mistaken.

The whole Von Erichs story was just a huge tragedy all the way around kevin is the only one still around besides some of the grandchildren of fritz.

Heres a little known fact....Nick patrick the referee is actually the son of the masked assassin.

Well, that and getting stabbed.

He also downed a ton of aspirin that night which thins the blood.

He was a guy that wasn't well liked by many wrestlers and promoters, but he was so good at what he did that the promoters always kept bringing him in.

Not my favorite heel in the regard that he wouldn't put guys over. Although it was funny when he scared the living daylights out of Lex Luger.

I grew up watching wrestling when I was 5 years old. My family was big into amateur wrestling. Kinda weird because growing up, nobody in my family had an issue with pro wrestling. But when I look at amateur wrestlers today, they all knock it. I remember most of the kids understood fully that pro wrestling was 'fake', but they just were into it much like some kids are into comic book heroes.

I think the first thing that I got into was Sgt. Slaughter. Eventually my parents got one of those old, giant satellite dishes which rock because they can get virtually any TV station known to man. So I used to grow up watching WWF, NWA Georgia Championship wrestling which later became WCW, World Class with the Von Erichs, and AWA. Eventually a family friend of mine became a pro wrestler, but I won't mention his name.

Later on I got to see a lot of Lucha Libre. Today's Lucha I'm not too much into. But this was AAA in the Los Gringo Locos days (Art Barr & Eddy Guerrero) Eddy was the better athlete, but Art was really good in the ring and I never saw a guy who could just make a smirk and cause the fans to almost riot. He was the most natural heel I ever saw.

Then came ECW. I had a friend going to Penn and he taped one of their shows and I really enjoyed it. A few months later it showed up on MSG Network. I came home a bit early from a party and discovered it was on TV (1st MSG episode as well).

I made it to the ECW Arena a few times. It's kinda funny how much I loathe Philly sports fans, yet have such a high respect for Philly pro wrestling fans. Usually it's the opposite way. I went to the Elks Lodge in Queens twice and vowed never to go again because the fans there were vile, drunk and high, and looking to start a riot. And they were more about getting themselves over than getting the wrestlers over. ECW Arena, to me, was about as good as it got.

It also coincided with when I first got on the internet and I met so many good friends thru that. I always shrug when people think that wrestling fans are a bunch of morons as by far and away, some of the most brilliant people who are very successful financially are wrestling fans.

College came and pro wrestling hit its peak. My family friend was long into WCW by that time and I got to make some backstage visits and meet guys like Steve Austin. There's a reason why Austin turned into the, IMO, the greatest wrestler ever...he's a bright and creative guy, works hard and loved wrestling and thought about 24/7.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of ugliness in pro wrestling. Lots of guys are good guys deep down, but once they get messed up with drugs you'd rather not have anything to do with them. Bam Bam Bigelow was like that. Great guy, but if he was drunk or high, he just came off as more pathetic than anything else. Not that it's anything new with people and drugs, but the drug problem is so rampant in pro wrestling, you get that all of the time.

Now I hardly ever watch wrestling. I'd probably watch Chikara if it were on TV. TNA is just making the same mistakes that WCW made (Vince Russo used to live down the block from me in Atlanta) and I kinda got sick of the WWE after Owen Hart's death.
