I grew up watching wrestling when I was 5 years old. My family was big into amateur wrestling. Kinda weird because growing up, nobody in my family had an issue with pro wrestling. But when I look at amateur wrestlers today, they all knock it. I remember most of the kids understood fully that pro wrestling was 'fake', but they just were into it much like some kids are into comic book heroes.

I think the first thing that I got into was Sgt. Slaughter. Eventually my parents got one of those old, giant satellite dishes which rock because they can get virtually any TV station known to man. So I used to grow up watching WWF, NWA Georgia Championship wrestling which later became WCW, World Class with the Von Erichs, and AWA. Eventually a family friend of mine became a pro wrestler, but I won't mention his name.

Later on I got to see a lot of Lucha Libre. Today's Lucha I'm not too much into. But this was AAA in the Los Gringo Locos days (Art Barr & Eddy Guerrero) Eddy was the better athlete, but Art was really good in the ring and I never saw a guy who could just make a smirk and cause the fans to almost riot. He was the most natural heel I ever saw.

Then came ECW. I had a friend going to Penn and he taped one of their shows and I really enjoyed it. A few months later it showed up on MSG Network. I came home a bit early from a party and discovered it was on TV (1st MSG episode as well).

I made it to the ECW Arena a few times. It's kinda funny how much I loathe Philly sports fans, yet have such a high respect for Philly pro wrestling fans. Usually it's the opposite way. I went to the Elks Lodge in Queens twice and vowed never to go again because the fans there were vile, drunk and high, and looking to start a riot. And they were more about getting themselves over than getting the wrestlers over. ECW Arena, to me, was about as good as it got.

It also coincided with when I first got on the internet and I met so many good friends thru that. I always shrug when people think that wrestling fans are a bunch of morons as by far and away, some of the most brilliant people who are very successful financially are wrestling fans.

College came and pro wrestling hit its peak. My family friend was long into WCW by that time and I got to make some backstage visits and meet guys like Steve Austin. There's a reason why Austin turned into the, IMO, the greatest wrestler ever...he's a bright and creative guy, works hard and loved wrestling and thought about 24/7.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of ugliness in pro wrestling. Lots of guys are good guys deep down, but once they get messed up with drugs you'd rather not have anything to do with them. Bam Bam Bigelow was like that. Great guy, but if he was drunk or high, he just came off as more pathetic than anything else. Not that it's anything new with people and drugs, but the drug problem is so rampant in pro wrestling, you get that all of the time.

Now I hardly ever watch wrestling. I'd probably watch Chikara if it were on TV. TNA is just making the same mistakes that WCW made (Vince Russo used to live down the block from me in Atlanta) and I kinda got sick of the WWE after Owen Hart's death.

What the heck is Chikara?

Jimmy Wehba{aka Skandor Akbar}passed away last year and was from the DFW area if im not mistaken.

The whole Von Erichs story was just a huge tragedy all the way around kevin is the only one still around besides some of the grandchildren of fritz.

Heres a little known fact....Nick patrick the referee is actually the son of the masked assassin.

Kerry's daughter was in TNA but I think she left...

I'm 22 and haven't watched wrestling since there was wcw and wwf around the time when eric bishoff was leading wcw and NWO was formed. I always watched wcw never wwf I hated wwf for some unknown childish reason lol.

Anyway my favorites were always #1 kevin nash and #2 scott steiner. I always liked everyhone in both nwo factions.

I will say this ...... as much as I argue about wrestling ..... it still is not the same since this man died.

The video of him as a baby brings tears to my eyes ...... looks just like my youngest.

Thanks..who would be crazy enough to tell that guy he had to put somebody over?

He was scary.

You know for a long time Austin had the rep of being a difficult guy..he did not like to put guys over and he butted heads with Vince over all that.

You can say that about a lot of the major draws in WWF history.

HBK was well known for being absolutely ridiculous to have to deal with back in the 90's. The one thing that was good about Shawn, however, was that if Vince told him no and that he had to do it Shawn would do it, even if he didn't want to. But he was well known for refusing to put over Bret.

Hulk Hogan every one knows the score on him. He has put over like 3 people in his whole career. lol

Ultimate Warrior another case of trouble in that area.

HHH apparently is one who can definately be that way as well.

It's pretty rare that you find, at least it seems so anyway, main event, major stars, who will put over anyone like Mick Foley or The Rock will.

HBK after he cameback from the 4 plus years off did a wonderful job of being the guy who would work with and put over anyone as well. Much better person to work with and around, by all accounts, after he cameback.

Taker has been putting guys over for years; he knows how it works...

Yeah Taker is a classy guy. No doubt he's up there with the Foleys and Rock for being willing to put anyone over. It's one of the reasons, IMO, that Taker has lasted so long as an overwhelming draw in the main events.

Yea very true. Taker came up in a time when I think the wrestlers probably took better care of each other than they do now..so much more money to be made these days if you hit it big.

And the "Undertaker" gimmick was brilliant. I remember the first time he came out.

Trivia on Taker...Teddy Long at one time was a Taker "manager"

insanely emotional, great match, I ordered that PPV.

My favorite wrestlers were Michael's and Eddie as a kid, I started watching wrestling in 99 and was obsessed with the Hardy Boys until Michaels returned, I loved Stone Cold and absolutely hated The Rock. Probably was the only person in the world, it was cool since my neighbor and best friend since ive been like 4 was obsessed with the Rock and hated Stone Cold. I stopped watching WWE for probably 2 years after Eddie died, only watched TNA. Came back around the time Cena made Edge a main eventer (07)

Eddie was never one of my favorites..I don't know why..watched him wrestle on TV for alot of years in both federations and I guess I sort of took for granted he'd always be around.

I do remember vividly the tribute show WWE did for him after he passed and it was obvious how much he was loved by all the other wrestlers and fans. He sure was popular.

Guy had all the tools to be one of the greatest of all times, wrecked by drugs and he overcame them, and then they killed him. Thats the sad part, he beat the addiction yet it still killed him.

Almost all the wrestlers that have died young it has been drug related...it's a sad commentary on the business and what those guys are willing to do to stay sharp and in the ring.

The main thing I remember is he seemed to have fun wrestling..I think he totally got that sometimes it was ok to have fun in the ring..and that translated very well to the relationship he had with the fans.

I've never heard or read a single wrestler diss Eddie. It was really sad when he passed.

It really was, he was one of the few wrestlers that connected with the audience on a emotional level. AJ Styles does a good job of it with the TNA audience, in WWE I don't really see any of the newer wrestlers developing that connection, Edge, Undertaker and HHH thats about it for the active wrestlers. All the greats had the ability, Shawn, Eddie, Hulk, Kurt Angle, etc;. It's the difference between a main eventer and a all-time great in my opinion, the emotional connection with the audience.

Out of active wrestlers there are probably 7 with the ability off the top of my head;
AJ Styles (32)
Edge (37)
Undertaker (46)
HHH (41)
Kurt Angle (42)
Rob Van Dam (40)
Jeff Hardy (33)

ppl w/ potential to get to that level:
Mr.Anderson, Samoa Joe, Desmond Wolfe, John Morrison, Randy Orton, John Cena, CM Punk, Mike Bennett.

no one else really has that ability to emotionally connect with the audience on the same level they do, I know some of you will flame the Styles mention but he is Mr.TNA, the way Rob Van Dam connects with the ECW Audience AJ connects with the TNA audience, if your not a TNA fan of course you won't feel the emotional connection, but if you do you wont debate the mentioning of Styles.

I don't agree with you about AJ and all this charisma he supposedly has but we've been over that umpteenth times and I'll just leave that alone. Can't stand RVD. Never have liked him..never will. Angle is one of the best obviously but he's a loose cannon. He's miles above anybody else on the TNA roster though and I say that as a huge Sting fan. Sting is being used right but I think that's more his doing than the writers of TNA...

Samoa Joe is a heart attack waiting to happen...he gets fatter everytime I watch TNA. Too bad. Not that fat guys don't wrestle everywhere else but to me he's a shadow of what he was. I don't even watch him anymore on there. Hit FF FAST....

I don't know who Desmond Wolfe is or John Bennett. I FF over most of TNA unless Angle is on or Sting. All the rest I don't care to watch.
