Play 100% every snap and you will have fans complaining about the fact that you come out of the game. See: Zeke, DLaw

Every player in the NFL has snaps where they don't give 100% in pursuit, and that's all Woods is really talking about.

As Sharpe said, you may think it, and you may a point, but you don't say it to the Press.

For all the talk about cutting him, Woods is one of the few adequate players on defense.

Thompson and Wilson starting? We'll give up a 60 burger to someone.
Right so let's keep him and give up 49, and the rest of the team figures it's ok to take plays off.

I do think his comments were taken slightly out of line in a way.

He is often way off the LOS and the play is over before he would be involved...I'd say he meant something like that.

But the fact remains he is a crappy player. Always was and always will be.

Just another Jones family deal telling themselves they are great drafters and they nailed the 6th rounder when they really didnt.

People wonder why the Dallas Cowboys do not succeed???? This right here tells you all you need to know about the culture in Dallas:

""We’re in the NFL. You don’t expect guys full speed for 70 plays. That’s not possible. But you're going to push all you can." Xavier Woods comment.

Dallas has a culture of lazy *** players and it's worse when they get paid. This is why Dallas misses Jimmy Johnson because he would cut his *** immediately to send a message and this is why Dallas has not gone to the Super Bowl in over 25 years.

i like X woods....and i know he regrets saying what he did

At some point you would almost think it would be better for the players to admit that they are not even trying. I mean they are just AWFUL and now they are saying that this is their best. What in the world are we supposed to do about that?

No player can go his 100% all game, they all dial it back at times. Elliott takes himself out when he feels the tank is down because he only plays one way.

Did you watch the CHI-TB game last night? Did you see Mack tearing it up at times? Did you also see him get held up at the line by one blocker on some of the longer drives?

Did you watch the ATL-NE SB? Did you notice the difference in the ATL D in the first half and midway through the 3Q? They were giving 100% of what they had to give and it wasn't enough.

These players run on adrenaline a lot and when they push the limit, the body will react and it will need to recover even in those with the absolute best conditioning.

What he is saying is fact just like Romo's comment about if this is the worst thing to happen to him but it should not be said at those times. No one wants to hear excuses after this performance by this D.

No dumb it down from Smith or we get tired from Woods. In fact, no one wants to hear from this D as long as they're leading the league in giving up points.

I'm not defending anything. It is the reality of the NFL.

You want it to be 1975, where guys kill themselves, play for the love of the game, and aren't overpaid (to your definition). But it's 2020, and basically none of those things are true.

No, it's the exact opposite. The DL rotates but DBs and LBs don't really sub at all.

Woods, specifically, has played every single defensive snap this year.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WoodXa00.htm
Sure, DBs sub less than LBs, who sub less than DLinemen. But it is still more common than what is seen on offense.

So while you are absolutely correct that this year Woods has played 100% of the snaps. Previous years it was 91% or less. So let's look at a couple of safeties that Cowboys fans want(ed) and/or have mentioned recently:
  • Earl Thomas, he has never played 100% of the defensive snaps. When healthy, he was going at 96%+, but never 100%
  • Jamal Adams played 98% and 100% his first two years, but since then, he has not topped 87%
  • Juan Thornhill played 89% his rookie year and is at 91% so far this year, so he will not top 100% in his first two seasons
  • Jeff Heath topped out at 98% and 84% in 2018 and 2017, every other year has been 61% or WAY less.
    • Hell, he is only on the defensive side 13% of the time for the Raiders so far
Now on to a couple of linebackers Cowboys fans tend to talk about a lot:
  • Darius Leonard has topped out at 91% of D snaps his rookie year, only hit 80% his 2nd year, and is on an 82% pace so far this year
  • TJ Watt looks to be a mid 80% guy with 77%, 86%, 87% and 84% of D snaps throughout his career

Oh ... but 95% is still a lot, right? Well if a Defense plays a flat 1,000 snaps in a season, which would be very low for any D in any year (62.5 defensive plays per game), that still means the player stat for 50 defensive snaps. And 95% is still arguably very high for most non-dline defensive players.

Therefore I believe it is safe to say that while it is more common for Safeties and LBs to play a higher percentage of snaps than defensive linemen, playing 100% of the snaps for ANY player on D is an EXCEPTION rather than the rule.

True. But offensive skill guys rotate all the time, so the idea that defense subs far more than offense isn't true.

When I was young and played I played 100% every play that is how we were taught. No pain no gain. To say it is not possible is an excuse and he and anyone else that does not give 100% on every play they are in the game need to be benched then if they continue cut. They are paid to give it all every play

It's difficult when the owner is as wealthy as Jerrah is..

to not have a trickle down effect of feeling privileged playing n Dallas.

Nods
Especially when you consider that all the other NFL owners are basically poverty stricken

:hammer:This has been Garrett's culture for almost a decade. It's impossible for our new coaches to fix this big issue in only one season. It's embarrassing Jerry let this continue for so long.
The even bigger problem is that the new head coach is just like the old coach:facepalm:

At least we know what to do with Woods when he contract expires at the end of the year. Part of the great purge of 2021

He is making $2.17M this year! Do you make that? Do any of us make that? To play a game....16 games....that is $135K a game.....and he can't give full effort for 16 total hours? Give me a f-ing break.

name 1 player or person that give full effort 100% of the time. it isn't possible. y'all want the players to answer questions honestly, then when they do, y'all pounce.
