So paying and extra $300,000 to a vet player or saving $$$ on a rookie that could mean a mistake of not getting to the SB?
Give me that vet player, let the rookie learn on the PS.
On my pre TC 53, I have woods on the 53, White to PS. I have had it that way since the draft.
I am not against either one, I want them to work out. I am just a wait and see it on these 2.
A lot depends on what happens with Scandrick. I still think he's a goner, but I also think both make the 53 unless one of is completely inept in coverage.

No news is probably good news in my opinion. I believe this also means that Heath is doing well also.. And let's not forget, he's a rookie frim LA Tech. I'm sure the learning curve will be his first hurdle. Give him time to absorb and decipher the play book. There's no question he has the physical skillset. Once the pads come on and he's gained more knowledge of coverages, I'm sure people will notice. The fact that he isn't getting noticed negatively, is a great thing.

Not just Scandrick, but also Carroll and Blanton. But I will give them the edge for now over Woods and White, only because of their experience and contracts.

Woods will be fine. Even if he doesn't "WOW" us in TC, we would be SILLY to think that we could slide him onto the PS. Me thinks he will be a BALLER for us...in time.

I suspect he is buried too deep on the depth chart to make much of an impact this year other than on special teams. Still excited about this pick and can't wait to see him next summer.
Yeah, he's buried under perrenial pro bowlers like Jeff Heath and Kavon Frazier. I don't know how he'll ever see the field.

everyone kept writing and talking about woods. didn't hear much about him in the mini-camp. anyone heard or read anything on how he did?
Xavier Woods has far too much talent for it to go unnoticed indefinitely. The cream always rises to the top. Woods will get his due sooner or later -- it's simply a matter of time more than anything else. One only needs to examine his college stats to become thoroughly convinced. He'll be fine.

They don't have pads in OTA/Mini-camp practices and even in training camp they don't tackle.

Woods style of play will likely show up much better in the preseason games when he can hit/tackle.

I don't care about the 300K, but if it's a close decision, then I would error on the side of keeping the young player on the roster.

It would be rare for a bottom of the roster veteran to be the difference in getting to the SB.

Woods is a football player.

No way they are going to try and stash him on the PS unless he completely bombs.

He'll be on the 53.

Now wait until camp.

I'll be somewhat shocked if Scandrick is not on the final 53 man roster; however, I'll also be shocked if he is on the roster in 2018.

It will be difficult to keep White on the 53. Right now it seems like there are 1 or 2 spots for Blanton, Frazier and White.

CB
Scandrick
Brown
Carroll
Lewis

CB/Safety
Awuzie

Safety
Heath
Jones
Woods

Other
Blanton
Frazier
White

White is definitely the odd man out. As of right now at least.

I think Awuzie practiced at both Safety and CB in the OTAs/mini-camp. If he plays more Safety this year, it could help White's chances.

Unless there have been struggles in practice I'm not aware of, no way I cut Frazier. With Heath now starting at S, Frazier probably becomes the lead tackler on STs while also having a future at S. He's basically where Heath was 4 years ago, with similar physical traits. The difference is Heath was pressed into duty as a rookie when he probably wasn't ready.

Mental ability makes or brakes Safeties and I have no idea of his progress in that area.
