let me say that I was the 1st to say out loud that this was going to be proposed way back during the season, predicting isn't a gift of mine however, anyone should have seen this one coming a mile away

I just knew it would, and esp. after we saw no more head slaps after the Pat's game, it wouldn't suprise me that after the game, the league stepped in and told him to knock it off

I getting sick and tired at all these rules named for cowboys players.From Roy william, to Eric williams. to Emmit smith. now to Marion barber. i have said before. the NFL is very anti-cowboys.it's one thing after the other.the only thing they like about them is ratings.and win or lose, the cowboys always bring big tv numbers. as many people like to see them lose as we who want to see them win. hell no to this new rule. what we need is a rule for when an offical calls offside on Ware in a playoff game when it didn't happen. is to suspend his butt. im sick of the anti-cowboys NFL.

well then your one of those that thinks it ok for the off player to grab or just push against the facemask while the def should be pentalized 15 yds, or 5 yds, i still dissagree. im not one that thinks there should be several changes to the rules, its been this way for a long time so why change it now. if i was going to change any rule i think id change the rule that a scrambling QB can throw the ball out of reach of everybody once he's outside the pocket, i think it takes away from the big effort that the def put forth and id say if the QB dont want to take a hit then he should run it out of bounds or do a QB slide.

Actually I wish they would get rid of the incidental facemask it is a bogus call just like holding on the line is. I think the grabbing and twisting of a facemask on a stiff arm should be a rule but is too subjective to enforce, but if you watch most stiff arms it is a push of the helmet or face mask not a grab and twist. IIRC ball carriers can touch the helmet or face mask they can't grasp it, at least that is the way it was explained in Emmitt's hay day.

Unfortunately, the QB doesn't have a flag. He's not allowed to be touched because he might get hurt. Watching old NFL Films reminds you how nasty the game used to be.

Personally, I would have no problem with this rule.

I have always thought it was entirely stupid to penalize a defender whose hand merely grazes the facemask with no grabbing at all, but a RB can push his hand under the bottom of the facemask and hold it up with the defender's neck pressed back while he runs ten yards.

Emmitt did this lots of times...running down the field while essentially holding a defender's facemask.

I'm sorry, but I think that's a stupid thing to allow the RB when the defenders get penalized for letting their hand touch it.

Stiff arms are often applied to the top and side of the helmit and to the shoulder or chest...a RB doesn't need to be able to facemask any more than a defender does.

I have no problem with a rule that would tell a RB he can't shove his hand in a defender's facemask and just run down the field while holding the tackler's head back.

You can call it a sissy suggestion if you want, but I think this inequity of rules is far worse than the overprotection of QB's or the raping of DB's in order to produce more scoring by the offense.

CMON!!! Stiff-arming, head slapping, striking the face mask...however you want to slice it...you've got to be kidding me. 2 of the all-time greats, Jim Brown and Walter Payton, of this sport made a living using their hands/arms/elbows as WEAPONS against defenders trying to tackle them. This has been going on forever and I dont recall anyone ever getting hurt or any player really complaining about it. THIS IS FOOTBALL!!!! :bang2:

I have no issue with the rule, if we are going to call horse collars and defensive facemask why in hell should the guy with the ball get by with it.
