Shift the tag from overpaying for a TE (Schultz) to overpaying for a RB (Pollard).

Great.
On a positive if his injury is more serious then Cowboys aren't on the hook like they are with Gallup

Good stuff.

I like Schultz, been a fan of his from the start. Love how hard he plays and his nice YAC ability.

All that, but you simply cannot pay him huge.
He averaged 3.8 YAC in 2022, a career worst for him.

He played pretty good for having an average qb. Also, I think the system helped him out some so it sort of balances out. Be interesting if he went to the chargers and see what he can do.

Good…he was the definition of mediocre.
I wouldnt say mediocre but we knew this last year so no big news. That’s why we added TE in the draft. Likely will do the same thing at RB this year

Did he? Did he get the ball right when they were already tackling him? Just how many chances at YAC did he get? Did you research that before you threw out a stat?

How in the world do people not understand that getting open at the NFL level is extremely difficult? I seriously don't get it. If anyone can do it, why don't they?
Mr. "Get Open" caught a total of 13 passes in his first two seasons. He didn't score a TD until his 3rd season. Someone had to teach him how to get open.

Both rookie TE's have caught 2 TD passes. One has a running TD. Obviously, they are more trusted than Schultz when he first arrived

Since both rookie TE's handled the ball more at least as much as Dalton's first two seasons combined, I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that they may also learn how to get open. However, i have to say, they are much farther along than Dalton was as a rookie.

He is also a below average blocker. Which is still an important skill for a tight end.
That is true, Schultz is more or a receiving TE than a blocking TE and with MM wanting to go to more of a run first philosophy, I think that is why they view Schultz as expendable.

So, you're using 2 TD passes to compare. Interesting.

Guess that's where the misevaluations come from, stuff like that.

How in the world did you forget that Schultz's 2nd year was the season they brought Witten back and gave him all the snaps? Tell me you're kidding.

Do you mean in 2018 and 2019 when Dallas was using Blake Jarwin and Geoff Swaim(2018) then Jason Witten and Blake Jarwin (2019) as their top 2 TE's? If you are going to try and belittle Schultz then at least apply the context background info to explain why his receptions didn't go up until 2020......and for the record Schultz from 2020-2022 compiled 198 catches for 2,000 yards and 17 td's.

Actually, I had a typo. He averaged 3.6 yac. He avearged 6.5 yards before catch, which was a career high and 3.6 yards after the catch, which was a career low.

I have already praised Shultz for his hard work and he is a very good TE. The fact remains that he was a raw product that needed time to develop.

If you disagree with my claim that he needed to be developed before becoming productive you would be suggesting he was more polished and that most of his skill set was already there

Very well but you have already acknowledged, in his 2nd season, he could not compete with a 37 year old Jason Witten and a 3rd year undrafted free agent with a career total 27 receptions

I like the guy but I don't think he would be worth the expected asking price, especially since the Cowboys have two young guys with equal or even higher potential

It was obvious that he sat out while Rush was the QB then miraculously he's healed when Dak returned.

Schultz is a replaceable cog in the machine. It's not like he's Kelce or Kittle. Ferguson should be able to step in and fill his shoes adequately. Maybe we lose a little on the receiving end (not much IMO) but I think that is offset by what is gained in the running game with his better ability to block.

Exactly my thoughts. Letting Schultz walk is absolutely the right thing to do, same thing with Zeke and Pollard. Getting better on the OL will improve this team more than paying overrated skill players.
