You can count on Dalton Schultz not returning

Dalton Schultz was manufactured by a combination of coaching, practice, opportunity and hard work.

He was not a "can't miss" or "impressive specimen" with "unique physical skills".

He did not have a record breaking college career. He was not a first round "blue chip" player. He is not "generational".

The Cowboys already have two younger TE's with the same potential trajectory. They are both in the same range as Schultz's productivity after two seasons and they have both only played in one season.

I wish Schultz the best of luck but suspect he will be misused by his new team and never reach that same level of productivity over the two most recent seasons.

Schulte is a B-tier tight end.

Just as good ans effective as those Pat's TEs hunter Henry and jonns..
he's a craft underneath security blanket .
Very tough and resilient. Knack for soft spots ad zones.

He's not a mismatch or big run after catch guy. He works well for the scheme he is in.

But I get same sense that they may want certain superlative TEs in this draft class or go with the 2nd yr Ferguson hendershot mckeon combo and see what becomes of that.

Ironically travis Kelcie was not generational either

He was not a Kyle Pitts TJ Hocks protected first rounder

More so? We actually drafted the late Gavin Escobar over travis kelcie .

it happens when it comes to the NFL draft.

With the way things go in the NFL, if not for a Jarwin injury, he might never had a chance to make a name for himself. He should get another contract, and it is cool that he has earned one, but he is nothing we haven't already or can't replace for cheap. There are two many people to pay on the roster

I knew Shultz was gone once Dallas drafted two TEs last year.

This is no surprise to me.

He was better than mediocre if we are going to be honest about it.

He was 10th in yardage and 11th in receptions among TEs last year.

I think we can get by with the younger and cheaper TEs, but lets not act like Schultz was a scrub.
I simply cannot comprehend the need to tear down a good player such as Schultz. Great effort, great attitude, and a knack for getting open as well as really good YAC ability. It's OK to think we shouldn't pay him, I don't. However, why try to make him out to be not very good? It seriously makes no sense.

He won't be worth the contract he ultimately gets, but he was under appreciated here for what he contributed. We forget what it was like here at TE between Novacek and Witten.

I think the Cowboys will be ok with Ferg and Hendershot. But I don't know if they will be as productive as Schultz. Sometimes we get ahead of ourselves that the backup is as good or will step right in. Sometimes 2nd and 3rd strings look more productive because opposing defenses aren't expecting them to be as involved or go up against a lesser defender.
Well said.

How in the world do people not understand that getting open at the NFL level is extremely difficult? I seriously don't get it. If anyone can do it, why don't they?

Yeah he reeks of leaving here and never hearing from him again. Love the value of him as a 4th rounder but gotta get rid of him.

Yeah where are the “we like our guys” crowd at lol.
Schultz has become the whipping boy. Extremely strange in this case as he is a good player and a good dude. When that crowd decides they don't like someone, they denigrate him to the nth, often going to such extreme lengths as to making up stories and scenarios and coaching and scheme stuff. And it's really sad that they don't know how ridiculous they sound!!!!

I don’t get it either. He did everything right. He was productive. Wasn’t flashy and I think that’s where the “hate” comes from.
