My problem with him is he is not aggressive with what has to work with, We could of did what flores did all game which was bring pressure. You need to bring pressure when you don't have the players on the back end. You can't sit back and play bend and break defense cause it breaks every damn time! You send pressure so you can create havoc!!!!What bothers me about Eberflus is he couldn't parlay the addition of Williams, and the return of a few others on the D, into a unit functioning as a sustainable model of continual improvement. Eberflus is not an innovative coach. He has a system that is uses to shape players instead of creating a system that exploits their best attributes. No way he can come back.
On a somewhat related note....the Giants thought hiring Jason Garrett was a smart higher after he spent 10 years as the Head Coach in Dallas. His schemes were also vanilla. His schemes were also outdated. Jason Garrett promptly was 2nd to last in offense his first year with the Giants. Then dead last his 2nd year. He has not coached on any level since then. Stop assuming someone is "smart" or "knows what they are doing"...because they were head coaches previously!!!
You look at the drop off since Quinn left and how they looked before he got here and I absolutely blame Eberflus. And before anyone says the defense was soft when Quinn was here, they were simply undersized. So they could get pushed around at times. They always played hard within the scheme. The Cowboys have been soft on defense for over a decade. The rest of the league has simply figured it out.
Even back to the Jason Garrett years it showed. The Arizona Cardinals beat up the Cowboys in the desert and manhandled them, and the secret was out. Stephen Jones said he couldn't see paying big money to an interior lineman, he wouldn't pay big money for defense at all. The Cowboys plan all along was to use draft rules that allowed them to get young players on salaries limited by the NFL's draft rules so they could spend big money on offense.
Fast forward to this season, and Micah Parsons is let go right before the season begins.
How was Eberflus supposed to field a good defense that had no inside push and no pass rush?
Way back to "Camp Cupcake" under Wade Phillips, it was becoming clear that the Cowboys could be pushed around.
Jerry staked his business model on having the most prolific receivers he could find and providing excitement for the fans.
But there was no accountability for these offensive teams. And Jerry's poor decisions led to what you see on the field now.
Romo self destructed when given too much control. Dak Prescott choked every time the game got too big and the Cowboys needed him to lead.
Jerry’s high flying circus act had its flaws, and now it has come crashing down around him.
And the Cowboys are now America's joke.
He sure seems to confuse our secondary.Regardless of any of that...there is no excusing his lazy, vanilla scheme. There is no complexity to this defense. It's 90% rush four and play zone. That MAY have worked better with Parsons being able to generate fast pressure on the QB consistently, but to continue, week in and week out trotting out the same bland, lazy bs scheme regardless of past failure was/is absolute negligence on his part.
He needs to go..6 weeks ago, and actually, never should have been hired. He was a lazy, comfort hire, just like BS.
Romo lacked patience. He knew what he had to do. He had trouble waiting and setting it up. He'd say screw it and chuck the game away. And I'm not saying all of the time. I'm saying when he did screw up that's what typically caused it.I think 'Romo self destructed when given too much control. Dak Prescott choked every time the game got too big and the Cowboys needed him to lead.' would have been better slotted at the very beginning. It would cut through the suspense of finding out whether this will be a leeblair post that does not mention Dak.
If you want to just say it's Jerry's fault and stop there what's the point in even bringing it up. Nobody's letting Jerry off the hook but he's not the only one responsible for everything. You're letting the GM off the hook for the trash that was on the defensive side. The trade helped but they still don't have a good pass rushing end, worst linebackers in the league, trash secondary. That's on roster building. Eberflus sucks as well so add that all together and you have one of the worst defenses. Go figure.
Never. You're letting the GM off the hook
Right. You know who chose Fluke.Never.
Well who hired Eberflus? Who doesn’t let his coach pick his staff? We keep putting the blame on coordinators and head coaches here. It all comes back to Jerry. If you want to just say it's Jerry's fault and stop there what's the point in even bringing it up. Nobody's letting Jerry off the hook but he's not the only one responsible for everything.
Honestly, I like Garrett. I just don't think he was a great HC here. But I appreciate him, and he was incredibly nice to me when I met him#off-topic
Jason was fired to save the Giants HC from being fired.
Dude would have fired his dad to save his neck.
Jason won a lot of games here.
I don’t have the same hate.
I think Eber is getting canned. Curtis too.
