You think this could be our next QB if he continues to decline?

Chad had ONE very poor game.

Because of his shoulder surgery, he saw very little preseason time in a new offense, and featuring quite a bit of shotgun snapping which he is not yet comfy with. (hence the fumbles, one caused by the center)

There is no Warner shell shocked issue involved; just a case of a new offense and a QB who was recovering this spring and summer while ideally he would have been getting mega reps in it.

He also lost a very good right tackle to free agency and his protection on Sunday was sub par.

Way, way too early to assume much from that performance, I think.

I really hope you are kidding.
not a single one of them has ever won the big game. Give me a pocket quarterback every day of the week. Maybe the pocket qb won't make 2-3 plays a game running, but he will actually have a chance at leading his team to Super Bowl glory.

Hi Cobra. I agree mostly with your post but I forsee a shift in the credentials for the QB position in the near future. The faster and stronger the defenses get in the NFL, the more it will be required to have a QB that knows how to "buy time" and maybe even pick up extra yards. Also, in the game between the Eagles and the Falcons, both defenses were hammering away at the opposing offense. Neither QB was having success throwing the ball but I like the way the Falcons used Vick to make the plays necessary to win.

I do agree that having the ability to pass the ball is the preferred criterior for a QB. However, I do think that the next great QB will be an "athletic" one but he will also be able to pass. Footballs version of Micheal Jordan may not be Micheal Vick but he will come in the form of Micheal Vick, just with the ability to pass well. When that happens.... LOOKOUT!!

Analysts have been saying that ever since I started watching the NFL in 1979. "Mobile QBs are the future of this league!" And yet, here we are, twenty-six years later, and the league is still dominated by pocket-passers, and the two best are named Manning and Brady. McNabb and Culpepper have mobility, but they are pocket-passers first, and didn't become good QBs until they learned to stay in the pocket.

Don't get me wrong...mobility is an excellent secondary skill for a QB to have, but when mobility is a QB's primary asset, then you could find yourself with nothing before all is said and done.

Vick is the only QB in the league right now that you can say his mobility is his primary strength.
Every other mobile qb that has won a superbowl (Elway and Young come readily to mind) was just as you described McNabb and Culpepper. Passers who could run.

No. Bledsoe has 2 super bowls in him for us still.

And this time around I believe we draft a true replacement-hopeful to take over once Bledsoe leaves. That was our problem last time around, we didn't bring someone in too learn from Aikman's example of how to be a true high-level professional quarterback.

Bill will probably draft this guy in the 2nd or 3rd round 2006. And depending how good we are, he may even pull another Pennington and draft our guy in the first round just like he did with Chad.

Your example, right. I just think you have the wrong player. Bill repeats his own history..our own version of Chad, Chad 2.0, will be brought in here before Bill leaves. He'll want a "face" he brought in to carry this team for long after he's gone...so his legacy will live on. And chances are this guy will never play as long as Bill is coach here...again, just like Chad in NY.
