It doesn't even have to be another Patrick Mahomes or cost a first round pick.
You Will Never Draft The Next Jalen Hurts If You Handcuff Yourself To Carson Wentz
Unfortunately, Jerry Jones is obsessed with proving he is a football guy by finding diamonds in the rough. Whether it is with undrafted Tony Romo or 4th round Dak, or with under-qualified Jason Garrett or Kellen Moore, Jerry wants to prove to the NFL that he is such a good judge of football talent that he finds guys that the real football professionals in the league overlooked, and therefore he is more football smart than the true professionals. And he is stubborn, giving guys who don't quite have "it" too much time to prove Jerry right. If he was smarter he would hedge his bets by having a plan B and plan C, but maybe it is his background in the oil industry that gives him his all or nothing approach.
I disagree with people who say Jerry doesn't want to win and only cares about money. He wants to win, but if and only if doing so also proves to the league that he is as football smart as any of them. Hiring a professional GM might allow the team to win a championship, but then Jerry would have to share the credit with the GM, and that is unacceptable. Jerry has been trying to do this too long to change now. He thinks next year will be the year he will finally prove to the league he is just as football smart as they are. And if not next year then the year after that. Or the year after that.
OMG I think you are right and its scary lol.
