You won't believe where Vegas thinks Tony Romo will play in 2017

Romo costs Dallas $1.9 million in dead money if he is traded or let go. If Romo stays, it costs Dallas $2.4 million for his 2017 salary. If Romo leaves, Dallas needs to sign another backup qb. Lets say it costs the new backup qb at least $0.5 million. Where does Dallas save any money? If Dallas can't get a 2nd or 3rd round pick, I would hang on to him. Business wise, you don't let Romo go without getting anything in value back.

None of this is accurate.

The error you are making my friend is assuming he is going to be the backup.

Jerry may decide there needs to be an open competition at QB and all bets are off at that point.

Not that far fetched to think a healthy Romo with 14 years of experience beats out a guy coming off his rookie year, just saying.

And this is a good snapshot into why this team often wanders aimlessly with Jones making decisions.

I love Romo. Think he was one of the more underappreciated players in the NFL for years. But his time has come and gone. It's time to turn the page on the franchise, as sad as that is.

No sorry that's not good management. Talk about taking a close team and creating a do do storm . That train left the station when he stood before
the camera's and said this is Dak's team he's earned it. You get to follow Romo at he's new station.

The oddsmakers in Vegas think Tony Romo could return to the Dallas Cowboys in 2017 | Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images

Odds: +200 (2-1)

Believe it or not, the oddsmakers in Vegas believe Romo will be on the Cowboys’ roster for Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season. It doesn’t make much sense to us, given the enormity of his contract and the fact that he may have a substantial amount of value on the open trade market. But at the end of the day, Vegas tends to have a pretty good idea as to how these types of situations will eventually play out.
Outdated data by the author.

This was from early January and he's using it as recent data.
Its astounding how lazy writers have become

Vegas has Dallas closer to to 4th or 5th now....not 1st

It isn't going to happen. Some people like to deal with the world as it is...not as they'd like it to be.
this has nothing to do with personal desire; strictly from an objective business point of view the scenario I laid out is the best beneficial option for the cowboys

i don't get why most are so opposed to this, it makes the most sense from a business perspective..

Totally disagree, there is a salary CAP and freeing up $18 million in 2018 should make it an easy decision to move on from Romo.

I agree with not just giving Romo away. There's no way I would just release him.

The word is, he will be released within two weeks so he's ready for the start of free agency.

But I'm certain that Jerry, like all of us, would very much like him to stay. It's kind of up to Tony.

Jerry will do whatever Romo asks on this. He feels indebted.

No it is not. Ignoring the Cowboys for a second the single biggest asset someone can have in the NFL is a franchise qb on a rookie deal. That's where the Cowboys are today assuming the continued growth of Dak.

In that case from a business standpoint the most logical path would be to develop your young qb and get assets from your old qb.

The worst business decision is to pay big money to a qb to either be a backup or to start and stunt the growth of the young qb while also not reaping the benefit of the rookie contract on your young guy.

I don't think the words "objective business point of view" means what you think it does.

The closer we keep him to the regular season the more likely a team will get desperate i.e. Minnesota Vikings last year. Easy to say you don't wanna part with a first rounder at this point in the year, but not when you're looking at squandering an entire season because you don't have a capable QB.
Thats why i think a team will bite early. Everybody saw that trade for Bradford and cringed.

Looks like Vegas has another slobberer shook. Your insecurity is showing again.
Anyone who likes Dak is a slobberer yet you and your love fest with a 2 playoff win QB means you are educated? Gotta love hypocrisy.

Thread fail

--degenerated into yet another Dak vs Tony thread
--was outdated (so inaccurate for today) from the start
Maybe mads can fix title to
"You will not believe were Vegas thought Romo would end up back in early January. And please refrain from more Dak vs Tony arguments here"

Some of the media have run with this story from Brandon George of the DMN as George saying that this is the case:

http://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/d...t-josh-mccown-backup-qb-talking-several-teams

Even though George is probably right, I don't think his intent was to break that as a comment in a story about Josh McCown. I think he is just logically speculating, not breaking a story.
