You won't believe where Vegas thinks Tony Romo will play in 2017

You don't pay a backup 14m while you have every intention of grooming a young potentially franchise qb.

So start Romo and have the same conversation you did with Romo mid season with Dak. Why is everyone so opposed to asking Dak to sit next season, but chomping at the bit to trade Romo for peanuts?

You get whatever you can in trade or save the money to improve a young team.

Bad business is holding on to a depreciating asset too long.
Bad business is also not getting market value for a scarce and valuable commodity (an elite QB)

His value will be highest when a QB goes down early in the season. He may be on the roster to start the season but probably not at the end. Also lets not under estimate the value of having a legit QB running the second team. They value of being able to really see what our skill guys and defense past the starters have help build the best roster possible

Romo costs Dallas $1.9 million in dead money if he is traded or let go. If Romo stays, it costs Dallas $2.4 million for his 2017 salary. If Romo leaves, Dallas needs to sign another backup qb. Lets say it costs the new backup qb at least $0.5 million. Where does Dallas save any money? If Dallas can't get a 2nd or 3rd round pick, I would hang on to him. Business wise, you don't let Romo go without getting anything in value back.

Ill take that bet all day. Romo is gone.

The math can be confusing. And move that decimal one to the left, that's the amount of dead money, 19 million if he's traded or let go. We can choose to take all of that amount this year, or basically divide it up and pay some next year.

We will also save 5 million on the cap this year and something like 20-25 next year if we decide to take the dead money hit this year.

If he stays, he will cost Dallas an additional 14 million (his salary). That's really the big difference you're looking at when you're trying to determine if you want to keep him this season, and to a lesser extent the cap savings that would be slotted for 2018 if he's cut this year (for contact structures, etc).

The error you are making my friend is assuming he is going to be the backup.

Jerry may decide there needs to be an open competition at QB and all bets are off at that point.

Not that far fetched to think a healthy Romo with 14 years of experience beats out a guy coming off his rookie year, just saying.

Ok buddy.

Dallas saves in not payign Romo his $14M salary. Please try and understand the cap before you speak on it.

It isn't going to happen. Some people like to deal with the world as it is...not as they'd like it to be.

Not if he re-does his contract.

I don't think his presence is nearly as extreme as the outsiders tend to think. Who knows, maybe he'd actually prefer to stay. I can't imagine that being how competitive it is, but i'm also not going to pretend he may not feel that way.

The only question is, does he absolutely want to start somewhere or not?

If he wants to stay and be a backup, lead the Scout team, help make the team better, maybe take some snaps if Dak needs to miss a game... I'd be down with that. The only people making it a "circus" would the be the media and the really weird partisan effect Romo has had on some people.
Romo is not going to redo his contract to be a backup here. Face facts people. The man wants to start. And that's not happenign in Dallas. This is silly speculation.

Those odds are over a month old. The latest odds favor him going to Houston.

Sportsbook.ag have the Houston Texans as the presumptive favor if that were to happen, at 5/8 odds.
...
Denver is at 3/1 odds to pick up Romo.
...
The only other option with single digit odds is the field at 5/1. The Kansas City Chiefs are 10/1, the Cowboys 12/1, Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers 15/1 and the Buffalo Bills 45/1.

Romo is gone. He wants and deserves to start. It ain't about Dak. Dak has a job as the starting QB of the Dallas Cowboys.
I feel for Romo like many do. It was just brutal the way Romo lost his job. His cowboyed up for ten years as one of the better QB's.
Let him fellow his dream. This Dak slobbers term is so silly.

good. he's already said he'll redo his contract to do a trade. why would he NOT want to be on a team going to the superbowl? i would hope he stays, we have a bad arse backup, and we win the superbowl and both he and witten do in fact get rings.

may not be the way we've always dreamed of, but i'd love to see romo here helping us get that ring next year.

now this all depends on what we could get for him, wouldn't it?

4th-6th round picks - i'd rather have a quality backup even if overpriced than 37 year old josh for example.
1st round pick this year, 2nd next? depends on from who.

when i look at what we can "get out of romo" i look to the field also. i don't think he's necessarily gone. likely, but not necessarily.

In the NFL as it is this very season, salary shouldn't be a deal break with the money in a large number of team's caps.

This.

Speaking of insecure, repetitive Dak slobberers...

You sound like petulant child.
Dak is the QB, but I am ok with Romo as the backup because I know the guy is incapable of staying healthy. Rather keep him as insurance policy that let him go for nothing.
