You don't pay a backup 14m while you have every intention of grooming a young potentially franchise qb.

You get whatever you can in trade or save the money to improve a young team.

Bad business is holding on to a depreciating asset too long.

Let's not look at this in a vacuum -- it's more that you'd be paying your top TWO QBs about $14.5 million total next year, which is a steal, especially given the talent we're talking about. We would actually have security at the QB position next year, which is unheard of in today's NFL. Sorry, but that doesn't sound bad to me at all. I have a feeling Jerry is looking at this in very much the same way. He knows how damn good Romo is, he doesn't want to watch him simply walk out the door.

Or that's 14m that you can eventually use to retain your own talent or bring in defensive reinforcements.

One of the great benefits of finding Dak.... Our qb for the next decade... Is that for 3 more years he's also dirt cheap. Meanwhile you are fine just throwing away that advantage.

If it's all the same to you I'd rather not.

I'm not sure why you think paying $14.5 million for a top-notch starter and surefire backup is a cap-killing move -- there are any number of teams that are paying more for one QB. Oh, and if we lose Romo in the offseason and Prescott goes down? Yet one more season of "what ifs" and "should have beens." Obviously, the fly in the ointment is Romo's desire to be a starter, so doubt much will come of this. But this notion that Romo is 'too expensive' just doesn't wash with me. No, expensive is watching your starter go down, not have a viable backup, and throw away a season filled with promise. It doesn't get more expensive than that.

No sorry that's not good management. Talk about taking a close team and creating a do do storm . That train left the station when he stood before
the camera's and said this is Dak's team he's earned it. You get to follow Romo at he's new station.

I am just saying that Jerry might not be as committed as moving on from Romo as you are.

Because it's not a buddy system.
Starter is a great value so you reallocate resources to other positions and try to win.

Cowboys are 6m under the cap with about 5 starting positions not filled.

Math isn't hard.

Romo will be gone. Which is what he wants, what the team needs and the only thing that makes any logical sense.

But he is.

Unless you are personal friends with Jerry and talk to him on a regular basis, how exactly do you know how he feels?

You are just guessing like everybody else....................we shall see in the coming weeks how good your guess is.

Because his son was on the radio today talking about it.
And because I have a brain. And because Jerry has stated himself he'd work it out to make everyone happy but once h does he wants a prize.

This isn't complicated or even a debate.

We aren't going to see anything except whether TR is traded or released.
There has never been nay 3rd option where he stays short of Dak being abducted by aliens.
Guess you can hope for that.

So Stephen was on the radio today and said Romo would be either traded or released?

Mind providing a link?

Here's where I'll leave this. Let's see what happens. I'd bet if that were possible, it isn't.
It's obvious Dak is the starter and there will not be any competition.

Yes, he said that for those that know how to actually listen and put together ideas.
Asked about Dak? Plan is for him to be here 12-15 years.
Asked about Tony? Jerry will be meeting with him sooner rather than later. Zero mention of a plan to be here even next month.

His comments are all over this forum.

That's my choice , most of you know that. Injuries happen. I wonder how many of us remember that the Cowboys lost their first two QB's on the depth chart before the season started.

Besides, the most desperate time for a team is when they lose their QB early in the season. That's when you get the best value trading one.

So, Tony Romo becomes an insurance policy through training camp and the first couple games. If all goes well with our other QB's then we trade him, there is sure to be some team with a tragic QB story by then.

Of course, if things don't go so well with Dak (fingers double and triple crossed) then we have Tony, now that is a benefit!

Looks like Vegas has another slobberer shook. Your insecurity is showing again.

Wha????
Insecurity about what? The best rookie qb in history who led his team to a 13-3 record vs a 37 yo guy who was once good and than hurt seriously three of his last four games?
Excuse me while I search for a shrink to talk to about this.....

As much as those Texans fans irritate me, I think Houston is the best fit for Romo.

The oddsmakers in Vegas think Tony Romo could return to the Dallas Cowboys in 2017 | Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images

Odds: +200 (2-1)

Believe it or not, the oddsmakers in Vegas believe Romo will be on the Cowboys’ roster for Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season. It doesn’t make much sense to us, given the enormity of his contract and the fact that he may have a substantial amount of value on the open trade market. But at the end of the day, Vegas tends to have a pretty good idea as to how these types of situations will eventually play out.

Garrett is in better shape than Romo is. Sheesh!!!

Vegas giving 2:1 odds on Romo playing for Dallas in 2017 means it is more likely that Romo will play somewhere else than play for Dallas. He's more likely to play for one of the other 31 teams (per Vegas) even if the odds of Romo playing for Dallas are higher than those of any single team in the field.
