1. Alexander Wright (If only he could receive like he could return kicks)
2. Kelvin Edwards (If only he could have been as good against real NFL players)
3. Ricky Blake (Most have probably forgotten about him)

Wright is a good choice. All world physical talent, lousy route runner and hands.

I actually know Kelvin Edwards, He sold me a car at a local Nissan dealership years ago. He signed a hat for me.

Ricky Blake doesnt belong on this list though IMO. He wasnt bad, in fact he really flashed some bigtime ability in the limited time he had before he had a really bad injury (hip I believe). He had some bigtime runs in the 1991 season before he got hurt. He could have been a tremendous #2 behind Emmitt for years had it not been for the injury. In some ways he was like Earl Campbell.

Ugggh.

I knew someone would bring up the fumble. :(

I tried to locate him a few years ago and had no luck. Newhouse, who worked (maybe still does) for the Cowboys, said no one seems to know what ever happened to him.

Wasn't me... :shush:

As much as I liked those overachieving backs from the mid-70s, I was thrilled when Dorsett arrived. He had (I think) a 77-yard run at St. Louis and an 84-yard run versus Philly in Texas Stadium during that rookie season, and I had never seen runs that long or that exciting.

My dad loved the Cowboys, but he could get pretty down on them (now I remember where I get that). Nothing brought him out of his recliner except when Tony would break into the secondary and the race was on. Great memories.

1) - Quincy Carter. Really wanted this guy to succeed.

2) - Manny Hendrix. UDFA... I thought played well. Was disappointed that he left via Plan B. The fact that he the cowboys exposed him, then he got cut from the Bills in training camp, then not signed... well, I certainly had him overvalued.

3) - Jason Tucker - the start of a long line of nobodies at WR that I have rooted for.

I really liked him, too. Former basketball player.

I met him when the Hoopsters were in town to play a charity basketball game. He was hanging around the hotel lobby killing time. Really nice guy.

Drew Bledsoe- thought he would take us to the Superbowl.
Herschel Walker- ditto.
Mike Sherrard- if he didnt break his leg twice 2 consecutive years imagine what a WR pair we would have had after Landry drafted Michael Irvin.

One of the great things about the launching of the Dorsett era was the fact that since we parted ways with Duane Thomas & Calvin Hill we had absolutely no breakaway threat at TB. And Dennison was the embodiment of that time.

Few times in my years of following the Cowboys rival the excitement I felt when we got Dorsett. Signing Herschel Walker is the other one. I had literal dreams of he and Dorsett in the same backfield tearing teams apart.

So when Dorsett arrived it wasn't like we went from a decent RB to a better RB. We went from having basically NO RB to having Tony Dorsett!!

I don't mean to hate on Dennision, nor your fondness for him. Its just that the guy so represents the darkness before the dawning.

I'm struggling to come up with my refined list of three and can't believe I am picking all WR's but here goes.
  1. Ron Sellers - remember his late TD to complete the playoff comeback vs SF?
  2. Billy Parks - I thought he was IT in terms of spectacular catches.
  3. Otto Stowe - Very brief, but very good IMO

I think you may misunderstand our "love" for Dennison. :) If you notice, both Chief and I have Tony Dorsett in our sig pics. :)

Remember, our 3 Favorite WORST Cowboys :)

Antonio Bryant...such great natural talent but a noodlehead.

Solomon Page - WVU homer so I wanted that one to work out.

James Whalen - Heck of a receiving TE for UK and thought he would do ok for us.

Honorable mentions since I have not seen his name mentioned...

John Nix aka the Trash Can full of Dirt (just gotta love that name because they said nobody could move him).

Montavious Stanley - His draft day interview had me rolling.

I totally misread the question the first time I answered.

Id have to say Rocket Ismail, Drew Bledsoe and Anthony Wright.

No, I get it.

I can like bad players too. I just don't like Doug Dennison, and solely because of that fumble replay that I saw umpteen times. Next to "The Catch" its probably the most vivid replay in my mind.

But the good news is that memories of Dennison soon lead to memories of Dorsett's arrival.

Glenn Carano. I thought he was the real deal and one day would start for us.
Jesse Penn. He was the second coming of Thomas Henderson, fast and athletic.
Stan Smagala. He was the next Bill Bates but with speed.

Didn't Jimmy trade multiple picks for this guy? Too bad he didn't pan out.
