Sure you could go with that too. I wouldn't have any issue with that.

Ill go with this: You already have one overrated WR why have another one in Larry Fitzgerald.

You should be banned for such stupidity. Anyone who ever watched Jerry Rice play couldn't possibly be stupid enough to think he's over-rated.

I feel really sorry for your high school team if you're the starting QB. You're clearly not up to speed enough, or capable of learning enough, to actually play the position well.

Romo 2 Austin;3318919 said:
The QB position requires mobility, something that Peyton Manning has none of that excludes him from being the best QB of all time. if a Center couldn't snap well at all but was the best blocker of all time, would he be considered the best C of all time?

It does? Really? Hmmm...Aikman...Marino....Terry Bradshaw....Tom Brady....Joe Montana....none of these guys are/we mobile QBs and yet they were all great QBs.

As usual your lack of actual football knowledge is scary. And once again I'm left feeling very sorry for your high school team if you're a starter.

Lets begin shall we, lets start with 4 Quarterbacks. No I won't be including Peyton Manning, sorry!

QB1: Roger Staubach
QB2: John Elway
QB3: Otto Graham
QB4: Joe Montana

Now lets get some RB's in here!

HB1: Emmitt Smith (All-Time leading rusher, First Ballot Hall of Famer, 3X Super Bowl Champion, NFL MVP, 4X All-Pro, 8X Pro-Bowl, the discussion starts after him)
HB2: Barry Sanders
HB3: Walter Payton

FB: Daryl Johnston (I'll have to be honest here, I don't know any that are better than Moose, is he the best all of time? In this list he is. Aikmans Bail-out receiver and the long-time lead blocker for the NFLs all-time leading rusher)

Lets get receivers/TE wee I should be doing History HW but this is like history, sort of.
WR1: Lance Alworth
WR2: Marvin Harrison
WR3: Jerry Rice
WR4: Michael Irvin
WR5: Bob Hayes

TE1: Anthony Gonzalez
TE2: Jason Witten
TE3: Kellen Winslow

O-line oh how I dont know anyone expect for active players and former Dallas Cowboys.

OT: Rayfield Wright
OT: Anthony Munoz
OG: Larry Allen
OG: John Hannah
C: Jeff Saturday? Jim Otto? Only two names of great centers I know that would deserve to be in this discussion

DEFENSE COMING TOMORROW: Homework than bed for me.

to start: because I dont like Peyton Manning/Jerry Rice has no effect on my ability to play football.

I guess I have had so many idiotic posts that people thought I was serious, I listed what 20/22 players as Cowboys. Im a homer, but im not that blind. I posted a more serious list above, and will post a defense one tomorrow, and no I do not know every player to ever play in the NFL like CowboyJoe and Hostile seem too; No I do not know every o-line to ever play the game that was great. I do know more than the causal NFL fan, since the casual one knows the names Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Brett Favre and Darelle Revis and their knowledge of the sport ends there. I bet I know more than many average NFL fans aswell, i'm 16 my window of knowledge of pro-football is slim.

Fat Toad's Off-the-Cuff All Time Team

QB : Roger Staubach, Steve Young, John Elway

I LIKE having mobility under center, would probably take Manning over Elway otherwise.

RB : Terrell Davis, Barry Sanders, Marshall Faulk

Not the three best RBs ever, but gives me one great battering ram, one great change up with some speed, and one guy with great hands for third down.

FB : I'll motion a TE into the backfield if I need one, thanks.

WR : Jerry Rice, Lance Alworth, Michael Irvin, Drew Pearson

Statistically, the 4th guy should be Moss, Owens, or Harrison. However, they're all punks so I'll round out with a guy who already has chemistry with my QB.

TE : Jason Witten, Shannon Sharpe, Mike Ditka, Jackie Smith

I have two marked as starters, but really I'd mix and match based on the package I wanted. Smith is there over Winslow because he's due to be a hero if I ever play the Steelers.

OT : Erik Williams, Mark Tuinei, Flozell Adams
OG : Larry Allen, Nate Newton, Kevin Gogan
C : Mark Stepnowski, Ray Donaldson

Offensive line play is highly dependent on experience with your linemates. Accordingly, I have assembled a group in which every player has played at least one full season alongside his closest neighbor on the line AND every starter is a multiple pro bowl player at worst. Maybe I'd be better off if I hadn't extended that philosophy to the backups, tho. Gogan and Donaldson fail to strike fear into my heart.

DE : Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Carl Eller, Deacon Jones

Talk about your pass rush...

DT : Bob Lilly, Randy White, Alan Page, Merlin Olsen

Homer picks, what homer picks? In all seriousness, defensive line is probably the scariest position on my team.

OLB : Derrick Brooks, Lawrence Taylor, Bobby Bell, Chuck Howley
MLB : Bill George, Mike Singletary

Ray Lewis and multiple Steelers were omitted due either to character issues or being Steelers.

CB : Deion Sanders, Rod Woodson, Willie Brown, Champ Bailey
S : Willie Wood, Ronnie Lott, Ed Reed

Less to say about the defense, because I tend to favor a fairly simple defense (as opposed to offense, where I have definite opinions :D).

K : Jason Elam

Clutch, and a big leg. Will handle kickoffs too.

P : Danny White

You can never have too much depth at QB. Besides, I don't plan to punt much. If I did, I'd have Lechler. Gig 'em Aggies.

HC : Tom Landry

Betcha didn't see that one coming.

OC : Vince Lombardi
DC : Don Shula

In fantasy world, Favre is teh best QB because he has the most TDs. That one's easy.

EDIT: Sorry about double posting. Sleep more, pay more attention...

That is an impressive list THUMPER. The only question I have for you is about the HBs. Did you give any consideration to Eric Dickerson over Earl Campbell? Earl was definately a pearl, but man, I liked watching Dickerson run. I appreciate your choice of Walter Payton, he is my all-time favorite runningback (with due respect to Emmitt)
:starspin

I definitely considered Dickerson, he was amazing! I had him on my original list from several years ago and replaced him with Sayers.

If I were running a "feature back" style offense then I would have had Emmitt starting and Moose at FB but I am more old school and would use both a HB & FB so Payton & Brown make a perfect combination for that style. Bringing in Campbell and Sayers would make a nice complimentary 2nd string. I could also use Bill Brown at FB and Emmitt at HB and go with the feature back style when needed. I tried to give myself several options at every position and looked for versatility in my selections.

I just want to piggy back on this comment for a minute, because Romo2Austin is a good kid. He just needs to listen and right now he doesn't.

There is nobody affiliated with the NFL that is going to EVER agree with the belief that Jerry Rice was over rated. The guys in his list would disagree with him, vehemently. Yet he still will not listen.

Then he will turn around and say he is only 16 and doesn't know as much as some of us and has limited experience. That's all well and good, but at 16 you (this means everyone) don't know it all and in this case, you almost don't know anything.

Let me explain something. Jerry Rice isn't just the greatest WR who has ever laced up cleats, he is probably the greatest football player who has ever laced up cleats.

Calling that man over rated screams ignorance. Why would anyone want that label applied right to their Internet forehead? I honestly cannot take people seriously who simply do not get it. This topic isn't even hard. I can forgive the ignorance of not realizing how good Darrelle Revis is, but this is different. No one who knows football is going to agree that Jerry Rice is over rated. Not one single living, breathing, thinking person.

Learn the game or face the shame.

The funny thing about Rice is how tantalizingly close he was to becoming a Dallas Cowboy for life.

New England was picking #16 and we were #17 - we were one of the few teams that had showed legitimate interest and by all accounts were planning to make him our selection. Bill Walsh correctly assumed that he wouldn't last until either of San Fran's later round one picks and packaged them to leapfrog us and select him. We settled for Kevin Brooks who had an unproductive career and is a footnote in history.

Can you imagine what might have been had Rice been our #1 and Irvin our #2 throughout our championship run?

That is the frustrating part. I tried to tell him he should be soakin up all the knowledge here from the older guys instead of arguing and he would be light years ahead of anyone else his age.

And i agree, well said.

Here is my best all-time team. I started to really watch football in the 90s, so there is a bunch of football that I have not seen played live, so keep that in mind.

QB:

-John Elway (Best all-around ability and great leadership skills)

HB:

-Emmitt Smith (Mr. consistent and had tons of heart)

FB:

-Jim Brown (I believe he was listed as a FB)

WR:

-Jerry Rice (Best numbers and incredible work ethic)

-Randy Moss (Loved Irvin, but Moss was one of the most athletic players in NFL history in his prime; incredible speed and crazy ability to go up and get the ball)

TE:

-Jason Witten (No better all-around TE. Can block, receive and always finds a way to get open)

LT:

-Tony Bosseli (Wasn't sure if I should consider him or not, but for a 3-4 year span of his career, I would put him on my team.)

LG:

-Larry Allen (Best guard of all-time and perhaps best Olineman of all-time)

C:

-Kevin Mawae (Smart, tough, very mobile, amazing longevity)

RG:

-John Hannah (Just going off of what I have heard.)

RT:

-Erik Williams (In his prime, he could even take Reggie White out of games)

DE:

-Reggie White (Best DE ever)

-Bruce Smith (All-time sack leader)

DT:

-Bob Lilly (Mr. Cowboy; never saw him play live; at least I've had NFL Films)

-Warren Sapp (Maybe the best pass-rushing DT ever)

OLB:

-Lawrence Taylor (No explanation needed; changed the game)

-Derrick Brooks (Great instincts, great hitter, knack for making the big play)

MLB:

-Dick Butkus (As mean and tough as it gets; the type of guy you want in the middle of your defense.)

CB:

-Deion Sanders (Best man cover guy ever and could take it to the house.)

-Dick "Night Train" Lane (Could cover and deliver big hits.)

FS:

-Ed Reed (best playmaking safety ever)

SS:

-Ronnie Lott (Best combination of hitter and cover man)

K:

-Adam Vinatieri (Most clutch kicker in history.)

P:

-Ray Guy (A punter drafted in the first round, and he was worth it.)

KR/PR:

-Devin Hester (Returners don't have that long of life spans; he had a great two year run.)

-Deion could also be used.

This list is incomplete without Kavika Pittman.

On a serious note, I know many disagree Emmitt's the best running back ever -- but there's no denying he's the most accomplished. There might have been faster, more athletic, flashier, harder-to-bring-down backs. But no running back ever achieved as much as he did. From the MVP, to the Super Bowls, to the rushing crown.

Most productive back ever, bar none. And in my book, production is a pretty good vehicle through which greatness can be measured.
