Your Dallas Cowboys after Jerry moves on.

So, as Jerry gets older, speculation abounds: how will the Franchise look after he moves on ?

The consensus is that Stephen will take control.

How will that play out you may ask ?

That's the purpose of the thread.

Below are are my random predictions/observations:

As poorly as Jerry has GM'ed this team, he still has a lot of charm and guile.

The P.T. Barnum in him has got him through some rough patches.

The just keeping the team relevant and hanging around the rim has kept the Star full of the casual fans.

Jerry also enjoyed the afterglow of the 3 SB victories he presided over.

He also lucked into 2 good serviceable QBs for next to nothing in cost in Romo and Dak.

These 2 QBs fit perfectly into the keeping the team relevant philosophy.

Stephen is not going to have any of the above benefits.

He has no charm, gets defensive when asked tough questions, and has actually insulted the fans with

his "air quotes" playoff drought response, and more recently his ridiculous response when asked about dragging out the

contract negotiations with star players.

Once Dak ages out, and we get really bad QB play like in the Campo years, this team will no longer be relevant.

The heat is gonna get really high, and frankly I don't think Stephen will be able to handle it.

I see him either hiring a real GM or selling the team.

I am really curious as to what you other folks think is going to happen?
You know what it could end up being the Raiders al Davis left everybody thought once he was gone and yes I realized he passed away but I'm just using those terminologies not to be morbid but the Raiders never got better i'm not sure they got worse but they're pretty much status quo.

That could be here but you're thinking they can't replace the quarterback they could get lucky I mean it seems to me the Pittsburgh Steelers and other teams just floating quarterbacks around guys like Geno Smith Baker Mayfield Sam darnold those guys become available more often now than they used to because of the salary cap free agency players willing to move around that's why teams are gonna go with a guy like fields over with The Jets and you got Wilson and Winston with the giants or whatever and then you have a Hall of Famer who doesn't play great but he played every bit as good as Geno Smith last year and Aaron Rodgers probably going to Pittsburgh they change quarterbacks over in Pittsburgh is why I bring it up a lot and they still seem to be able to at least get close to or get in the playoffs every year but like the Cowboys they're like lost their last seven playoff games...

It is easier now than when we were in the campo years is what I'm saying but I have no guess on what it's gonna look like when Jerry's gone and Stevens running it who knows what he'll do by then maybe some of the other people in his ear his wife or his sister maybe they tell him he should get a strong real GM and get advice maybe things will change nobody knows

so why worry about what things might be like 5 or 10 years from now it seems to be a waste of time to me I'm not saying you shouldn't have posted but I'm saying it's just doesn't make any sense we don't know when Jerry's gonna be gone so it is what it is right now we just gotta live in the moment year to year I don't care what happened 30 years ago with Dave campo or what's gonna happen five years from now I just more interested right now in the draft and this season...

I'm in??????? Oh my gosh, greatest day of my life!! Finally!!!!!!

No disrespect intended DE, I learned how to take people's post and delete what they actually said, to make it what I want it to say from someone very special on here!! Sort of like literary theft!!!
No disrespect taken. That was well-done.

Dude, you seem stressed, take a nap.
My life has things in it that many here would cringe over if they knew. My spouse is bedridden about to be on hospice eventually. Last thing that stresses me out is this MB or any differeing opinion we may have. So know what, I'm good thank you.

I think we agree.
He can own the team but hire a real GM to do the work of running the team.
I don't think he wants the heavy criticism that would come his way once the Campo years come again.
I am not certain criticism (heavy or otherwise) impacts Stephen Jones as much as it does his father. In my opinion, there have not been that many instances where he has been seen tensing up to heavy criticism as Jerry Jones has demonstrated through the years.

When "Jerry moves on"?

You mean dies?

He ain't going ANYWHERE....unless it's in a coffin.

And even then, I bet he'll have a clause in his will that his idiot sons will get nothing unless they prop his coffin up in the owners box every game for the cameras to see, and keep his coffin in the "middle seat" in the War Room during Draft Night, where everyone will high five the coffin after every krappy pick the idiot son makes.
Lol, Jerry will be here another 1000 years in an android body fitted with AI.

Stephen will keep the constant supply of BS coming, much like his old man did. I'm hoping he'll hire a GM, although, that's quite possibly wishful thinking. If he does, celebrations will abound. If he doesn't, it's more of the same awful stuff we've seen with old daddy, Jerry, in charge.

Without a doubt the first two things I do are:
  1. Run Rowdy through a woodchipper, effectively freeing up unforms "0" and "00" for actual football players
  2. Fire the end zone black hat guys: "You're finished. Clean out your lockers."
Please do!!!!
Rowdy is so creepy and cringe worthy!
My kids and dogs hide when they show him on screen during games.

Exactly, and that's why I have concern for what's next after Jerry. I am concerned about what Stephen does with the team next.
I think early on, Jerry realized there were 2 ways to stay relevant long term…win or ensure everyone has an opinion of the team/you. Jerry chose option 2 and they are still just as relevant after 30 years of futility.

Players come and go but Jerry is the constant. As the face of the franchise, is it doesn’t matter if you love him or hate him as long as you have an opinion. Tune in to see them win or lose but just tune in. And it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t have an opinion about Jerry/Dallas. And it’s kept them relevant without requiring performance and made him a lot of money.

The dilemma for Stephen is will the relevance continue post Jerry. Many people have strong opinions of Dallas because of Jerry (and his decisions). How might opinions fade after Jerry and how might that impact their relevance? The Raiders were relevant during the Al Davis years but I rarely see anything about them anymore.

IMO, Stephen doesn’t have the skills or fortitude to replicate Jerry’s approach. Hopefully that leads him to focus more on option 1 but only time will tell.
