Like the title says, which year was your favorite Cowboys draft? For whatever reason. This is not a top all-time draft list.

For me, the 2005 Draft. Always admired Parcells Culture Change message which is half of the battle on a losing squad, bad business, anything in life.

This was the draft where Parcells basically said “Bleep it, we’re doing it my way” and went for 3-4 Defenders and tough, big, physical players.

DeMarcus Ware
MB3
Marcus Spears
Kevin Burnett
Chris Canty
Jay Ratliff

A great Front 7 that would still stand the test of time today and take out a QB. One of toughest RBs I’ve ever seen play with or without a solid OLine. (RIP)

Deep Blue recently did a documentary on Class of 2005 if you haven’t seen it yet. Good watch. What is your favorite Cowboys draft class?

No lie, I was so hyped for Dallas after the 2002 draft and how the 2002 season ended from a rookie perspective.

Roy Williams looked like a stud, Bryant flashed talent and Ross ended the year with 5 INTs.
Add in Gurode, who funnily enough was the best player from the draft once it was all said and done, I thought Dallas was finally turning it around.

I also did like the 2003 draft, but it may of been "hopium" from Parcells running that draft.
Wanted Suggs, but was happy with Newman, and died when they passed on Witten but were able to grab him in round 3. Liked the Bradie James pick in round 4. Still remember back then going to DallasCowboys.com and reading draft profiles for players. Wasn't as many good draft sites 20 years ago.

Worst one was 2004 from the point of view of hype leading to the draft. Waited hours for Dallas to take Steven Jackson only to trade back... At least it gave us 2 picks in 2005 and Ware was drafted over Spears at 11.

I agree, that was painful watching Steven Jackson get passed over. Not as painful as Randy Moss, but deflating trade even if it did build 2005’s draft.

IIRC back in the 90's never watched the drafts live but remember seeing the confusion over passing over Moss the days after. Probably a good thing I or my dad didn't watch that draft lol

I’m gonna reach way back but it’s not even close for me.
The dirty dozen draft class of 1975.
12 draft picks made the squad and contributed greatly to the eventual super bowl champion 77 team.
Randy White
Herb Scott
Hollywood Henderson
Bob bruenig
Pat Donovan
Randy Hughes
Scott laidlaw
And a case for the greatness of Gil Brandt
The signed a free agent qb that year named Jim zorn that couldn’t make squad but wound up in the Seahawks hall of fame and won rookie of the year for Seattle…..

Yep. No surprise to see a '75 draft from a 70's fan. Talk about rejuvenating for another Super Bowl run era. Wish we could have had one of those circa 94-96.

The ‘75 draft is hard to beat.

Only one I hold in higher esteem: the 1964 Draft which contained 3 HALL OF FAMERS- Mel Renfro, Roger Staubach and Bob Hayes. And…also included QB Craig Morton who although not a HOFer, started two SBs- one for the Cowboys in SB V, and later for the Broncos against the Cowboys in SB XII.

EDIT: Oops. Morton was drafted in ‘65. My mistake.

For me it was the 2005 Draft.

I remember Shawne Merriman was the best 3-4 OLB prospect, but Derrick Johnson was the best / most athletic LB in that draft.

Then the Combine happened, and some guy from Troy ...
  • Weighted nearly 10 lbs more and 2 inched taller than DJ almost matched, and in some cases, surpassed every one of DJ's timed and jumping number
  • Then to top it off, despite being just over 20 lbs lighter than Merriman, put up more bench reps than SM.

While I know SD was going to take whoever Dallas didn't take, I was sure hoping to draft Merriman at 11 and then Ware at 20.

I was slightly disappointed that we went Ware first, but soon got over it when Ware came out the gate producing.

1991 and 2005.

91 was an awful draft as far as overall talent. Jimmy made the best of it and found some very useful players.

05 allowed the transition to the 34 to happen in one season and set up the next small run of success.

1975 was probably the best, and launched the team into the SB immediately. Before my time though, and the question was favorite over best.

The 2016 class probably is the high water mark for my excitement at draft time goes. Dallas was getting Romo back and looked primed to run it back 2014 style after a lost 2015 campaign.

Zeke was just coming off of one of the greatest two year runs in college football history as a RB and behind the Great Wall of Dallas, we all expected him to blow the doors off the league.

Jaylon was a potential top-10 pick before the horrible knee injury, but I figured if he could even be 80% of what he was before, you still had a pro bowler.

Maliek Collins was one of my favorite players at Nebraska and a menace as a pass rushing 3-tech. I thought he would turn into a Geno Atkins-type player.

Top that off with Dak being taken in the 4th and becoming the highest picked QB around here in sometime.

That 2016 season was magic. To go from the heart break and devastation of losing Romo in preseason againt Seattle and expecting nothing to Dak and Zeke taking the league by storm was really a lot of fun to watch. Honestly it is one of my favorite Cowboys seasons of all time. All of those players also gave the Cowboys at least a handful of good years too.

Also, wow. Dallas had some WRETCHED drafts between 2009 and 2000. I didn't realize how bad most of them were until I went and looked back at each name.

Picking my favorite draft class is really tough but I would probably go with the 75 draft. The infamous dirty dozen that had 12 rookies make the team. That draft included Randy White and Thomas Hollywood Henderson. The Cowboys appeared to be in decline, having missed the playoffs the previous year for the first time in many years and that draft led them to three more Super Bowls including one championship.

Agreed on 2005 just becuse it was really the first time in a long time that you could really be excited about the Cowboys future

2003 season was nice, but I think we all knew when it was over that it wasn't sustainable
