Like the title says, which year was your favorite Cowboys draft? For whatever reason. This is not a top all-time draft list.

For me, the 2005 Draft. Always admired Parcells Culture Change message which is half of the battle on a losing squad, bad business, anything in life.

This was the draft where Parcells basically said “Bleep it, we’re doing it my way” and went for 3-4 Defenders and tough, big, physical players.

DeMarcus Ware
MB3
Marcus Spears
Kevin Burnett
Chris Canty
Jay Ratliff

A great Front 7 that would still stand the test of time today and take out a QB. One of toughest RBs I’ve ever seen play with or without a solid OLine. (RIP)

Deep Blue recently did a documentary on Class of 2005 if you haven’t seen it yet. Good watch. What is your favorite Cowboys draft class?

1964 3 Hall of Fame Draft, Dirty Dozen 1975 draft, Tony Dorsett 1977 draft, 1988-1993 Triplets and Posse drafts, and 2005 3/4 Defense draft in that order.

Bill was right. His way is the way to build a Superbowl winning team. Players that don't get worn down by January.
3-4 DEF all the way

Yeah, but FiveTwos is right. Overall, that was one of the weakest drafts ever. And that Jimmy was able to find all those starters is one impressive draft.
Just Wikipedia the NFL drafts and compare how many HOF, PB, etc came from each draft. 1991 is barren. Especially disappointing in first round.
Probably doesn't help though that it followed the 1989 draft which was one of the most talented ever for first rounders. Aikman to Primetime to Barry Sanders to Derrick Thomas and more. Loaded!

1991 produced starters:
Russell Maryland
Alvin Harper
Dixon Edwards
Erik Williams
Leon Lett
Larry Brown
1991 and 2005.

91 was an awful draft as far as overall talent. Jimmy made the best of it and found some very useful players.

05 allowed the transition to the 34 to happen in one season and set up the next small run of success.

1975 was probably the best, and launched the team into the SB immediately. Before my time though, and the question was favorite over best.

When they selected Emmitt.
end of discussion.
Only 5 players drafted in 1990 by Dallas, but they got the GOAT RB, Jimmie Jones, and the Gant Shark. Also got Alexander "If Loving You is Wrong, I don't Wanna Be" Wright who was the NFL's fastest man at one point, but was just an average player. The other guy was Dave Harper (RIP) who was the only miss.

No lie, I was so hyped for Dallas after the 2002 draft and how the 2002 season ended from a rookie perspective.

Roy Williams looked like a stud, Bryant flashed talent and Ross ended the year with 5 INTs.
Add in Gurode, who funnily enough was the best player from the draft once it was all said and done, I thought Dallas was finally turning it around.

I also did like the 2003 draft, but it may of been "hopium" from Parcells running that draft.
Wanted Suggs, but was happy with Newman, and died when they passed on Witten but were able to grab him in round 3. Liked the Bradie James pick in round 4. Still remember back then going to DallasCowboys.com and reading draft profiles for players. Wasn't as many good draft sites 20 years ago.

Worst one was 2004 from the point of view of hype leading to the draft. Waited hours for Dallas to take Steven Jackson only to trade back... At least it gave us 2 picks in 2005 and Ware was drafted over Spears at 11.
2002 was the only time the two players I wanted at those picks were chosen. Williams and Gurode went to 5 Pro Bowls each. Too bad Antonio Bryant was a head case and Derek Ross (5 picks his rookie year just like Bland) turned criminal.

You can also count me in on the 2005 draft class. I remember watching and just loving the way the draft was falling for Dallas.

To build the hype even more, I remember the preseason game that year against the Seahawks, Ware made his debut and looked incredible for a rookie. He had a sack and an interception of Hasselback.

People forget about the 1989 draft when Aikman became a Hall of Famer, Daryl Johnston went to Pro Bowls and probably responsible for half of Emmitt's yardage; Stepnoski anchored the offensive line and went to Pro Bowls; and Tony Tolbert went to a Pro Bowl and tallied 59 sacks in his 9 years with the Cowboys.

All 4 of them also have 3 Super Bowl rings as well.

The ‘75 draft is hard to beat.

Only one I hold in higher esteem: the 1964 Draft which contained 3 HALL OF FAMERS- Mel Renfro, Roger Staubach and Bob Hayes. And…also included QB Craig Morton who although not a HOFer, started two SBs- one for the Cowboys in SB V, and later for the Broncos against the Cowboys in SB XII.
Never understood why it took so long for Landry to trust Roger, and realize that Morton was, ultimately, a liability. I think their minds worked in different ways...TL's analytical conservatism clashing with RS's more ad hoc football instincts. Once they got on the same page, the rest was history.

Dallas probably would have won Super Bowl V with Staubach under center.
