Can only go by the players I've watched. For me it's:

Randy White, Erik Williams, Emmitt Smith, Darren Woodson, Isaaic Holt (double value as he's also the coolest I've ever seen.)

1. Emmitt Smith - Giants game with separated shoulder - enough said.

2. Randy White - one of the meanest and toughest ever.

3. Moose - sacrificed his neck for a huge chunk of the NFL's all time rushing record.

4. Larry Allen - from running DBs down from behind to benching 700 lbs the guy is super human.

5. Bill Bates - a different kind of toughness. The Rudy of the Cowboys. They always wanted to cut him but his hustle, effort, and mental discipline wouldn't allow them to.

i was having one of those discussions in the Garage with a few neighbors, and of course we had our differences, generally due to Generational differences, and time.

So who are your Top 5 Toughest Cowboys of all time?

Mine:

1. Bob Lilly
2. Walt Garrison
3. Daryl Johnston
4. Ed "Too Tall" Jones
5. Randy White

discuss.....

I agree with your pick of Bob Lilly as #1 ;)

Maybe he wasn't in the top 5 toughest, but I would list Don Meredith in the top 10. I know he retired at 31, but he took some terrible beatings and played through the hurt. Don will always have my respect;)

Bob Lilly said no one on the team could lick Roger in a fight.
All of these guys mentioned were/are some tough **'s. I would have to add Roger as well. I rember one of my 1st games watching the Cowboys, when Roger punched Jack Youngblood(another mean mofo) right thru his facemask in the mouth. My top 5:

1.) Randy White
2.) Erik Williams
3.) Roger Staubach
4.) Bob Lilly
5.) Walt Garrison

Okay, I see where you're going with this. Say we walk into a bar with a room full of disgusting, low-down, dirty, stinking, trash-talking, beer belching Commander fans and their men and they had the nerve to try and start trouble who would you want with you? And it's just you, me and five old cowboys?

Well then I would like to have
1. Erik Williams
2. Randy White
3. Leon Lett
4. Bob Lilly
5. Harvey Martin
Pull Harvey Martin and add Colombo.

Didn't Clint Longley give it a shot in the locker room one time? I remember some incident of a back-up sucker punching him or something along those lines.

Roger was changing out of uniform and was just taking off his shoulder pads- his arms were pinned-and was thus completely defenseless when Longley took his cheap shot.

Well it was the only shot he ever got at making this list. :D
I think the poster who offered up Bill Bates to the discussion makes a valid point. He too, played through some injuries over the years. I guess a guy who can go to a bar drinking, win a bet that he can lay on his back and spit and hit the ceiling with a dip in his cheek on a Saturday night, then go out Sunday and run through the line with a broken leg gets my vote. Riding bulls in the off season doesn't hurt either. He's not gonna make a top five intellectual list, but he certainly had some great quotes and stories.

speaking of Randy White, I ran into him last night at a Sports Bar in Frisco/Little Elm, watching UFC. I didn't wip his *** asking for an autograph, but did manage to BS with him a little about fishin. The dude can bass fish like no others...

Yup, I'd stand behind him and talk trash, while he stands there with his arms folded. lol

That is a good list but I would drop off Too Tall and add either Cliff Harris, Bill Bates, or Emmitt Smith. When Ed went off to try professional Boxing I kind of soured on him a little.

Cliff Harris no doubt. My all time favorite Cowboy
