Youtube announces Sunday Ticket pricing

This is simply not affordable for the masses. But a lot of things aren't. But when you break the Sunday ticket pricing down, anyone living a middle class lifestyle can afford this. It's whether or not someone chooses to prioritize this. If you love it, you'll find a way. I personally don't feel like the product is worth the cost. But others do, and will purchase.

Like the only time I had HBO is when Game of Thrones was on. I paid. Others may not give a damn about GOT and not get it, not because they can't afford it, but because they don't see the value in the cost. So you have that whole slew of people besides those that can't afford it.

Not sure what point you're making now but you said your point was that YTTV could make profit on their investment with a lower price point. I'm showing you why they don't have to make the price lower: it's demonstrated that people are willing to pay it already and they can lure people with lower annual costs than cable/satellite service where they lifted the Sunday Ticket from in the first place. Ain't just about the NFL. The real money's beyond it.
My point is that everyone knows why. None of this needs to be explained. Just that its possible, has happened, and so customers held out hope. (naively)

I have not read through all the posts to get the entire context.

But I think he may be thinking, YT may find out, they will not get as many people subscribing or changing providers to get that discount. Nor will they spend the extra money to buy ST stand alone. As many will think it is unfair to be forced (in context) to subscribe to get that discount. So they will not buy neither.

However, if they were offered the special or a lower rate as if a customer, they would purchase it as a stand alone way to watch games. Therefore YTTV will sale more NFL ST subscriptions overall.
It will not cost them anymore to broadcast to 1,000 homes as it would 100 homes. They are just trying to maximize the profits, as you say, thinking they are willing to pay for it. And they could be correct, we will see.

I have been thinking of switching from DTV to YTTV or Hulu or even DTV Stream. And this special price does not make me want to sign up just to get it. However if that would be the price offered right up to the season starts, I would consider it. Not this decide by June crap.
I get all the Dallas games anyway, but I like the option of many other games. And yes, one can stream from other sources, but it is not as convenient to quickly switch channels on your TV or watch multiple games on your TV screen.

At $249 I would definitely consider it. I did get NFL ST free for many years, 6 of the last 8 were free.
On could cancel several other things to shift that money if they wanted to. Cancel Netflix for 6 months, I plan to cancel Sirius XM but never do. Though I only pay $6 a month, as they try to change it every year to $21. So there are ways to adjust for the cost if that is what one really wants to do.

Then again maybe I am thinking too much.
They have tons and tons of brilliant minds on this so I'm sure they considered all price points, including lower ones but ultimately they are going with the trends of the NFL. The league is as popular as it's ever been. Maybe if interest was dwindling you lower the price to lure folks back but while the league is flying high you can charge more to capitalize, which of course factored into why they had to pay what they did to get the rights.

As I said from the beginning, they are testing people's addiction to football and the ratings trends would tell you that people will do what they'll do to make sure they're included in that wave of popularity. If they don't get what they anticipate, they'll adjust. But the money they're after is people moving from cable/satellite and onto their monthly service for years, not just for football. They're after households, not the football-only single dude who's going to illegally stream because the price is too high, but they'll get some of those on board too. The money is in long-term subscriptions.

that is possible, but then you wouldnt have your real local channels.
best thing would be to sign up like you live in dallas area zipcode, then you will get every dallas game.
Not sure that works, i just moved from NC to Pennsylvania, and I've had youtube tv for several years now and when i signed into my youtube account here i didn't put anything at all they just automatically started showing local Pennsylvania channels. I would love to do that though, in NC i had to stream maybe 3 to 4 games a year while my virus protection would block virus after virus while streaming. I figure I will have to stream several more now, and I'm not a fan of watching on my laptop when I have an 80-inch flatscreen that i paid thousands for. direct-tv just stunk on so many different levels (i was with them for 20+ years, they lied to me several times in a row and i dropped them) YTTV has been good so far, no issues with anything. i might have to bite the bullet this year and see how it goes before i decide to do something long term.

Every VPN server you connect to has its own IP address that replaces yours to the outside world.

yes, you're correct. but what hes saying is he got to choose where his IP address would show up as. I want to say norton was like that at one point but now it seems they just throw a dart on a map and decides thats where he's going.

But we're not talking about Hulu.

I'm a little unsure about what you are saying. VPN is a very quiet process. It has more to do with HIDING you IP.
Wherever your IP is "located" is the zip code that Hulu references. I'm talking Hulu so a VPN does nothing for me. I drive 12 miles to work, Hulu asks me if this is my new "home" location based purely on the zip code of the IP address and I can change it 3 times per year. Getting a VPN to solve the issue isn't really that simple unless you are okay with having the desired VPN be your "local" market and if you want to watch TV while at home you have to change to a new "home" location.

Doesn't really matter because you can bet that all streaming services know where you are logged in from and it's only a matter of whether they want to limit your access based on regionality.

"Hmmm...guy logged in from Singapore yesterday, but Dallas today and seemingly every Sunday. Totally checks out"

I'd rather just find a way to stream than go the VPN route. Just my opinion.

Why would anyone buy this? Is it so you can watch EVERY NFL game if you wanted to? To each their own, but I have no interest in watching anything other than Cowboys games, and maybe a playoff game, or two.

Youtube is available and popular worldwide, I imagine there are countries where people do not get any free football locally, and youtube is a way to expand their viewership.

America viewership might only be a piece of the reason they are expanding through youtube

Why is it so hard for people to comprehend that not everybody likes what they like and shares their opinion on everything?

I live in Virginia, two hours from DC, so, yeah, I get most of the Cowboys games. But I don't get all of them on local TV, don't want to scrounge around to find a rogue stream and don't want to go to a bar to watch football. And, yes, I like watching NFL football, often 3-4 games at a time. So I will gladly buy Sunday Ticket.

Edited to tone things down a little.

I'll keep pushing the IPTV argument over any other option.
Quality, quantity and affordable.
Every sport, every team every game.
Plus everything else cable TV provides.

When i travel i can log into my youtubetv account, amazon account and roku device. From a different zip and ip network. I might have to do a confirmation code. No biggie.
