Our first pick next April may be to replace him or at least try to.

..this is easy. If your man beats you more than 50%, yep its time to go.

Look at Jason Peters already early 40's. Still can hold his own. Given so many reps.

They way his contract is set up, seems like his agent designed it to be.

His contract voids next year, but on March 15th, allowing the Cowboys to make him a June 1st release.
His cap numbers are a mess.

Even if he doesn’t retire, it’s likely his last season with us. 8(

TJ Bass likely gets a shot at the RG1 job.
I agree, for the sake of competition, TJ Bass will likely get that opportunity but in the end, I see Cooper Bebee taking over as our RG1 after Martin retires and TJ Bass gets the C1 job. Just something to chew on with your brain. ;)

Seriously doubt it. Lance is a longshot project.

I think it depends on his health. He was injured a lot last year and couldn’t play to his full abilities. We all get old.
If he had a problem, it wasn't from being old. His harshest critics contend his abilities are non-existent. That, despite his extreme inexperience.
He'll be tested in practices, training camp and the preseason games -- very likely more than anyone else on the Cowboys' roster. We'll see. The organization is determined to find out if their 4th round pick was justified or not. He'll be watched intensely, without a doubt. They're desperate to learn if their investment was in vain or not. The position they've gotten themselves into with regards to Dak has them in panic mode.
'Bullflop' - VanqueroTD's comment was about Martin.

You responded to his post as if was Lance he was referring to.

Oh, thanks for the heads up. I'd say that explains the "old" comment.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'll belatedly bite my tongue. :omg:

Don’t see him being a solid replacement for Martin. It’s likely going to take a high pick to replace him. Not easy replacing a HOF player and he could be the second one we’re having to replace in the last year.

I know I’ll get a lot of flack for this… but if you had to pick the easiest position on the OL , it would be RG. I think Dallas has it covered already.

I think his return will depend a lot on what happens this season.........I can't see him coming back after a losing season, especially if MM and Dak are gone. A better question is if it is his final year as a Cowboy. Like Tyron, he is certainly a first-ballot HOFer for sure. My goodness, this time next year, Tyler could be the oldest vet on the Oline.

Cowboys' Zack Martin wonders if 2024 might be final season

FRISCO, Texas -- As Zack Martin enters his 11th season with the Dallas Cowboys, the nine-time Pro Bowler and seven-time first-team All Pro wonders if 2024 could be his final one.

"I think I'd be lying if I said it has not entered my mind, right?" Martin said on Thursday. "I think that's been a big thing for me this year, just try to tell myself, 'Hey, go out, do your thing and let anything else take care of itself after the season.' I don't know when I'll be done, but it's definitely getting closer to the end. I think it's just a good reminder for myself to stay in the present and take advantage of this year."

In this offseason, Martin saw his longtime teammate, Tyron Smith, leave as a free agent for the New York Jets. Martin and DeMarcus Lawrence, the Cowboys' first- and second-round picks in 2014, are the longest-tenured Cowboys.

At this point the entire team may feel that way.

You honestly think an undrafted free agent will be able to adequately replace a future Hall of Fame player?
Slow down there. First of all Martin isn't playing like that now. So don't think any player stepping into that position is replacing this current All World future HOF'er that walks on water. Second, yes he can step in and replace Martin and eventually become an above average starting OG in this league. That's the best anyone can hope for unless he can elevate his game to Tyler's status. It's very very rare to replace a future HOFer with a future HOFer. Just because he is a UDFA doesn't mean he can't do it. It's happened before (it happened right here with the Cowboys) and will happen again.

There are some in here that think we have guys who can step into Lambs and Parsons shoes and can replace them so those players should be traded!

You need to slow down because last season was Martin’s first down season. He was still playing at a high level prior to that or Jerry wouldn’t have caved and gave him more money when he held out last summer. We went heavy on the OL in the draft because it’s an issue. To think an undrafted free agent is going to be the longterm answer at RT is getting way ahead of yourself.

You are right,

No one can replace Martin.

But Bass will get a try. The kid is All Conf. He knows how to play.

He’ll get a try but if anyone is already marking him down as the long term replacement they’re getting way ahead of themselves. We could end up trying a number of players at that position.
