He didn't have average WRs. Fan myth. He had Welker, then Edlemann, best slot WR of all time, best TE of all time, and they always had a competent pass catching RB. Why? Because the salary slots for these positions if way below the salaries for WRs. Which leaves money for D which wins championships.

They lost the super bowl when they had Moss at WR, and Brady got sacked 5 times in that super bowl. Downfield passing attacks get QBs beat up.

They very well may suck. But to me I see more potential in a ex first rounder that’s 24 who may have been a bad scheme fit as opposed to a 30 year old who’s best years are behind them and just wants one last pay day. Let’s remember there’s no store where you can go to to get great players. This is free agency. Free agency isn’t a solution to your problems it’s just a band aid to cover your wound for the time being.

Cowboys issues are not something you can fix in free agency. Doesn’t mean you don’t try but in order to do wear needs to be don’t it starts with new leadership.

I think this as Will McClay all over it. I think he's taking the reins on all forms of team building, not just the draft... and he's using his draft "prowess" to make FA acquisitions.

That's the "Moneyball" I'm referring to... a different scheme/idea to find value in players.

You're right, I did a poor job of explaining what I meant. Outside of slot receivers/great route runners who were not average, some of their outside receivers were average.

Definitely some truth to the rest of what you said.

I'm starting to wonder if we are trying to pull off some sort of "Moneyball" style form of team building were we are looking at certain metrics that the general public doesn't generally perceive as valuable to sign lower dollar FA and acquire players via trade.

I'm not saying that it is a positive or a good thing, but it certainly seems like they are targeting certain players who have an athletic profile over an NFL pedigree.

Our offseason seems to have a theme... from the coaching search/hire to the FA period, to the players we are adding...
