Zack Martin still mulling over his football future: 'I want to try to get healthy'

He wanted him, but he wasn't intercepted before he could put in the ticket, especially since the ticket was in New York and he was in Dallas. The story gets further and further from the truth with time. There never was a ticket with Manziel's name on it. Just like how the story of Stephen pushing Jerry up against a wall that night to stop him keeps getting repeated despite how no one watching the war room's live feed (which never cut out while we were on the clock up to the selection) that night saw anything close to that happening.

"But again, to the actual facts from the people involved:

*There are no "draft cards'' in the Valley Ranch war room where Jerry and Stephen oversaw the selection process along with McClay and then-coach Jason Garrett. There are computers, notepads and magnetized name tags. There are no "draft cards.''

*The "draft card'' was actually in New York, where each of the 32 teams had representatives who carry their card with their selected player's name on it up to the commissioner for him to announce. The Cowboys' rep is Blackwell. There is no way for Blackwell to "be handed a card'' by Jerry as they were sitting 1,600 miles apart from one another.

*There was no Jones-vs.-Jones wrestling match. By virtue of our live coverage on the draft on the official station of the Cowboys, 105.3 The Fan, I was able to watch the WarRoomCam at times even when the telecast is not being shared with ESPN and NFL Network.

I watched - along with colleagues Bryan Broaddus, Shan Shariff and others - as Jerry and Stephen and staff talked through the process of the No. 16 pick. There seemed to be some disappointment over Shazier going off the board at 15, to Pittsburgh."
:hammer:........If the Steelers hadn't taken Shazier....He would have been a Cowboy. Can't remember where I heard that.....but that was said in an interview. Weird how somethings work out.

Do you mean Zack. It's sucks everyone just forgets how good he was for us. He had a down year and that's it? You can't even spell his name right? Get out of here.
Just a reminder I'm human. No I didn't forget how good he used to be. But I do remember what he is now. I used to think biadez was terrible for always helping with Zacks guy, now we see why he had too. Zack can not physically play at the elite level. At this point Hoffman and bass are the better choices, they proved it on the field. It's not personal it's business. I'd hate to see the great Zack get hurt. If that offends you, too bad.

Great job, thank you. I have said on these boards for years that drafting Manziel was never in the works and it was just Jerry playing along with media speculation because of the attention it brought. He appears to have a knack for that, lol.

He says 4-6 weeks so we will know something before the draft. Considering his decline in play and persistent injuries of late, I expect him to walk away. Sad ending to a HOF career.

NEW ORLEANS – Being in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX is a bittersweet moment for Zack Martin. On one hand, he's the Cowboys nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, one of the most prestigious honors in the NFL.

On the other hand, he's not in town playing for a chance to win a Lombardi trophy.

"I mean, it'll be cool to experience it as a fan, but obviously wish we could have played in it at some point in my career." Martin said.

retire please. we love you. you were great. HOFer for sure. but time to hang it up.
or minimally leave dallas because your are not winning anything here. you deserve it.

If you are thinking about retirement, you are pretty much checked out. Let someone else take the reigns.
I think it's time to see what the younger players can do and put our resources into other areas that need fixing. If Martin wants to continue to play, he'll need to do it elsewhere because he'll be looking to start and get paid like a starter.

I wouldn't mind, though, if we brought Tyron back as a swing tackle if he's ready to accept that role and the smaller salary that comes with it. It is likely that the Jets will cut him and I'm not sure he's going to find another starting opportunity after another injury-plagued year, but I'd take him as a backup, like we did with Jason Peters, over bringing Chuma Edoga back. Tyron's probably good for a few games.

Of course, he and Martin may both just choose to retire.

If he needs to make a decision needs to retire or cut him. Can’t wait for guys to make that decision.
He's is The President. What he has accomplished and done for the Dallas Cowboys over his career earns him all the time he needs to make a decision on his future. He said 4-6 more weeks and he will decide. That is more than fair.

He doesn't have a contract for next year genius, how we gonna cut him?

Also, how does taking a few weeks to make this decision impact anything?

But yeah -- the team should totally take a hard line on HoF bound veterans. That always makes people want to come and play for you.

If he's mulling playing he's retired. That's the truth.

What would it take for Martin to " get healthy " ..?

Rest ?
Strength & Conditioning ?
Pain shots and flintstone vitamins ?

Age and body just breaking down.
And if Martin cannot make the tough decision, .we'll need to make it for him.
