To all those who say Martin is our best O-lineman....hear it from the man himself. Smith is the best LT in football and the best player on this team. He lives on an island going toe to toe with the best pass rushers on Earth. He almost always wins. Down after down. And he hasn't even reached peak O-lineman age yet. He's also a month younger than Martin. It's insane. He's insane.

Go check the rank the top 10 current Cowboys players. Many put Martin above Smith. Joke.
I think many listed out of order. I know I did. Now I'm gonna go check, LOL :)

Edit -- I had TSmith in between TFred (top) and Martin (below). But again, my list wasn't in order. I had Dez at ten and I think he'll be better than the tenth best player. Far better.

A few ordered. At least one that I can remember. And it's something I've heard before here.

In any case I think Smith has been around for so long we take him a bit for granted sometimes. I mean there are only so many accolades. Ha.

This article makes me think back to the days here on CZ, when shortly after Tyron was moved from RT to LT and he wasn't immediately elite, MANY of our resident armchair GM's began labeling him as a "failed experiment", and that he needed to go back to RT which by default made him a bust since nobody drafts RT's that high.

We had fans seriously saying this.

Ahhh good times guys, good times.

Anthony Munoz is probably the best OT ever. I don't think he ever gave up a sack. Tyron reminds me of him in some ways, many ways.

That is speculation, I'm not a betting man, but I would bet he gave up several.

Not to mention the difference in physical talent / size / strength today than from the 80s. Anthony Munoz would have a tougher time today then back then.

That said, Anthony Munoz is the standard by which tackles are defined and Tyron is definitely in that company.

It's so true.

Lengthy guy, but not too tall so his center of gravity isn't off.

Heavy, but made of solid muscle and fluid.

Huge, violent hands.

Yeah, I think some just threw the names out there in real order.
Splitting hairs anyway.

I remember one poster said he lost so much weight during his college days -

to me a no brainer pjck

here a a good article on SMITH

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/pag...yron-smith-gets-control-battling-family-money

In his college career he did tend to lose weight by the end of the season.; BUT remember how young he was; the metabolism of a 18 year old vs one 20+. At USC the coaches were constantly working to feed him up to keep his weigh up but as his body matured that problem went away.

It is an interesting debate - is Tyron a better Tackle than Martin is a Guard or Fred is a center? Honestly I think all three are the best at their position in the NFL.

Now how dominate? there it seems Martin might have a edge there but if so it is not a big one.

Great OGs can sometimes even play RT. Very few can play LT...or at least a Pro Bowl level.
If they could, that's where they'd be playing.

LTs (great ones anyway) are a different and rarer breed.
That's why they get drafted higher and paid more.
