It appears Jerry is not worried either.Nope. But when Martin gets a bigger deal it will more than make up for the fines. That’s why he’s not worried.
they can do whatever they want.... and they can now rack up massive fines, to the tune of over 600k currently for Martin. Those fines can NOT be forgiven by th eteams like they used to do every single time, because it was expected. why do you think the league had that stipulation added to the last CBA??? It was added to punish players for holding out while under contract.
Contracts are written in a way that clearly states teams can release a player at specific times and whatthe fallout from releasing said player at specific times will be. Its actually PART OF THE CONTRACT...... a player while UNDER CONTRACT does not have the actual RIGHT to hold out as you suggest.
teams need to just play hard ball like jerry is.... like what happened to L Bell and then lets see what platers do.
Martin is losing that fined dollar amount no matter what happens. he is never getting that money back.
Owners have to pay the amount guaranteed in the contract regardless of performance. Players may withhold their services, even while under contract, albeit not without penalty under certain circumstances. The mandated fines act as a guarantee to owners players fulfill their agreement. Understanding the fines are not paid to the franchise owner. No one is being paid “under the table”.They must be paying the Player league representatives under the table, because nobody can agree to put that stipulation in the contract if owners can release players at will. That’s surrendering all leverage.
This is why players try to get as much upfront money as possible. The players have had these kinds of contracts since the beginning of time. It is what it is. Players keep trying to get fully guaranteed contracts and the only ones that have that kind of leverage are the Patrick Mahomes of the world. The Chiefs are gonna pay him and agree to basically anything he wants. A Guard??? nahThey must be paying the Player league representatives under the table, because nobody can agree to put that stipulation in the contract if owners can release players at will. That’s surrendering all leverage.
That’s good cause this season and especially this offense would be compromised without Martin which is my only concern. It appears Jerry is not worried either.
Hard to tell given we don't know how many fines he'll end up racking up.How much cash flows into Martin’s bank account after each game in 2023?
Yes. If he just wanted an extension, he was probably getting that anyway.I am still confused. Do people think what Martin wants is for the Cowboys to just increase his pay this year (which by the way, he's already been paid like 85% of his base) and next year and then go to FA in 2025?
Which gives him no incentive to play.Hard to tell given we don't know how many fines he'll end up racking up.
But, if he had no fines and played to start the season his cash flow per game would be approx $1.7MM divided by 17 games, so $100M.
Dude...Tyron did a 10 year deal at below market prices. Best LT deal ever over a contract life.Yes he did but like Tyron Smith, they agreed to longer term deals to help the Cowboys out. It's pretty well established that Jerry and Stephen like long term deals to help them manipulate the cap.
Sad to say but, you are wrong. Both Owner and Player are dug in for the long term. Zack might just retire though it will cost him a bundle.I have a hard time thinking this is a heated or angry argument going on. Then again I could be wrong, but I'm hoping it's more quibbling than a major crossroad.
Jerry Jones isn’t the only owner taking a stand with players under contract holding out or players not signed and turning down offers. They seem determined to not let players think they can behave like NBA players. Franchises must spend a minimum percent of cap on player compensation. It’s not like they can pocket savings by refusing to give a player more money. Whatever Martin is not paid some other player(s) will be. GMs can shuffle it around, but every dollar paid counts at some point. Maintaining max flexibility in deference to the cap is prudent.I have a hard time thinking this is a heated or angry argument going on. Then again I could be wrong, but I'm hoping it's more quibbling than a major crossroad.
