Zeke Looked Like a Top 5 Pick

I disagree that he's just getting whats blocked for. Disagree completely. He's shown ability to bounce outside, run inside, explode through the hole, finish, and fall forward. First two weeks not so much, but we saw everything come together last night. Will there be growing pains? Absolutely. Will he improve over the course of the season? Absolutely.

Don't try to talk sense to Catch. He'll just respond by spouting his same unconsidered line over and over. Chinese water torture has a similar effect.

I'm not being overly critical.

We used a top 5 pick on a RB. The standard needs to be raised.

Getting what is blocked over and over isn't good enough. We can find that anywhere. If this was our 3rd round pick i'd be fine with this.

We've been on this forum crying the last 2 weeks because "the best OL in football" and our top 5 pick at RB can't beat 8 in the box.

Then he plays a team that provides a little space and he is just getting what is there.

How about a little time, Catch. Dorsett didn't get his first 100-yard game until his 3rd game. Emmitt, his 4th game. Zeke got no gimme's last night. Those were tough yards.

Give the kid a chance to get the speed of the game and the blocking schemes under his belt. He'll prove his draft status eventually.

I'm fine with giving him time.. I'm by no means disappointed in him at all...

I just want the standard for him to be raised.

This guy was advertised as special and his playoff success 2 years ago at OSU was absolutely incredible so if you're standard for him is get what is there then that is fine but I expect greatness.

Turning nothing into something.. Getting to the 2nd level and making guys miss. Consistently gashing 8 & 9 man fronts. Homeruns...

Zeke's a good all-around player, but-Wirth he exception of his pass blocking- I've yet to see anything to recommend him over Alfred Morris.

We'd have been smarter to use the pick on defense.

I agreed with you week one and week two, but I'd suggest his speed is another aspect that Morris doesn't have. Rare do you have a RB who can choose to bounce outside on an inside zone and beat the defense to the edge.

Morris still has the better vision, patience and is probably about equal to power when he is hit.

I thought the same until last night. You still think Morris would have been as effective? The burst is night and day.

These threads are driving the Zeke haters nuts lol.
Actually its the other way around. These type of threads are walking the "it wasn't stupid to draft a rb in the top 5" guys back off a ledge.

I mean it was stupid. But it was done. Now he has to be 10 years of Peterson... Just to justify the pick. Which is crazy. Crazy because Peterson is the best running back of his generation and maybe all time. He's certainly the most physically gifted with tools Zeke dreams about.

Oh btw Peterson at age 31 with a huge contract is breaking down right before our eyes. Missing now almost two full seasons exactly when he is most expensive. Which btw isn't a surprise. It's actually expected. Conversely at 31 you'd still expect an elite corner to go for another 5 years years at close to his peak. See Darelle Revis. A guy who went 7 picks after Peterson and is a few months younger.

Terribly shortsighted pick. But I love it's exposing fans who understand nfl roster construction and not just fantasy football.

Carry on.

Not at the perimeter runs. They each have their own styles. But I'm ok with Zeke. As I said, he's a good all-around player. Mostly I'm just sore we passed on a defender.

Oh and can we stop with the Ramsey is getting beat by X number 1 receiver? He's a rookie and he's matching up against the opposing team's number 1 wr already.

Nobody ever argued that rookie secondary players get up to speed as quickly as rookie rbs. In fact wasn't that Zekes appeal? That he would have the most impact early on?

Well guess what? We are 2-1 this year with or without Zeke. I'd love for someone to try and debate that hypothetical. You'd lose it. In fact it's possible we'd be 3-0 as Morris looked to be more effective than Zeke week 1 who was by his own admission "pressing to hard." in a game lost by a point those things matter.

I'd much rather be the same 2-1 (or 3-0) rolling with Morris and letting Ramsey ease into our secondary mixing in with Mo, Carr and Scandrick (and not forced into number 1 duty right away which is impressive nonetheless) than 2-1 with an expensive rb and our top 2 corners entering free agency this offseason.

Oh what could have been.

Ehh.. You can find guys to do what he did later on in the draft..

Not special enough for a top 5 pick so far. He needs to make big plays and do more than just get what is blocked.

Agree....word for WORD. He's been solid, but unspectacular. I need my #4 overall pick to be the latter, not the former.

People like Catch and Risen are more interested in being "right" than wanting the Cowboys to do well. That is why each of them fights relentlessly to prove that their prognostications were correct, even to the detriment of acknowledging what is going well or what has been well done by the team and staff.

These types of posters attempt to make the board about themselves, rather than enjoying and celebrating all that is good about the Cowboys.

Its selfish, but thats just the way it is.

Lollll... The catch zone... Hmmm... I'll have to speak to Reality...

I'm fine with the Zeke pick.. I just have a higher standard than you I guess.

I want to be right about Zeke.. I said he would be a bigtime back... I haven't seen anything out of the norm so far. He's playing good.. I need special at the 4th pick for RB or it doesn't validate that pick considering the position is a dime a dozen.

Just because you don't feel Zeke was worth the 4th pick doesn't mean you have an agenda or there is some tin foil hat conspiracy against him. We had the best oline in football and our defense was among the league's worst in the most important categories such as QB hurries, sacks and takeaways. Doesn't mean we want Zeke to fail. Far from it. I want Zeke to be a hall of famer. I just think we should have found a way to trade down and bring in some more picks and defensive help. And the idea that a RB can make your defense better doesn't pass the fact test. The team that led the league in time of possession last season also led the league in takeaways with 38. That is how you keep your defense off the field by giving the ball to your offense!

His best game thus far came against the most injured team in football. Expectations need to be tempered until he shows he can be successful against much stronger teams.

The guy had 140 yards in his third game as a pro. Arguably the second best game of any RB this year besides the Matt Forte 3 TD day.

It is more than just his running, the guy didn't really play in the preseason and his blitz pickups were spot on.

There aren't many 3 down backs out there.

Lets not forget that one play where Collins got knocked on his *** and Zeke went up and blew the guy up (well, I should limit the exaggeration and say blocked him very soundly). Crazy that he could do that to the guy that pushed Collins on his heels.
