Actually its the other way around. These type of threads are walking the "it wasn't stupid to draft a rb in the top 5" guys back off a ledge.

I mean it was stupid. But it was done. Now he has to be 10 years of Peterson... Just to justify the pick. Which is crazy. Crazy because Peterson is the best running back of his generation and maybe all time. He's certainly the most physically gifted with tools Zeke dreams about.

Oh btw Peterson at age 31 with a huge contract is breaking down right before our eyes. Missing now almost two full seasons exactly when he is most expensive. Which btw isn't a surprise. It's actually expected. Conversely at 31 you'd still expect an elite corner to go for another 5 years years at close to his peak. See Darelle Revis. A guy who went 7 picks after Peterson and is a few months younger.

Terribly shortsighted pick. But I love it's exposing fans who understand nfl roster construction and not just fantasy football.

Carry on.

Not to nitpick, but Revis is in the midst of his worst season and has had people asking the question all year, "Is he past his prime?"

It's not haterade..

I'm a Zeke fan.

Just keep your expectations low for him I guess. I expect special plays.
I'm a huge Zeke fan and was hoping we had a chance at drafting him 2 years ago. He is the perfect back for this TEAM. We need him more than any other team needs any other player outside the qb position.
Having said that he is not perfect by any means but he is still just a rookie with just 3 1/2 games played. Enjoy this like emmitt in his prime because sooner or later he is going to start breaking off a couple of long ones

Since you brought up Revis: https://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2016/09/can_darrelle_revis_turn_things_around_at_chiefs_je.html.

And with regard to cornerbacks: http://socalledfantasyexperts.com/aging-curve-nfl-defensive-players-dl-lb-db.

So, Revis is breaking down before us, and the average "peak" age for cornerbacks is 27, and most fall off around 30. Yes, RBs tend to peak earlier, but as you pointed out, they also tend to make an impact earlier.

So, what was your point again?

It's fair to point that out and from what I've read, Revis is struggling this year. But Adrian Peterson is a freak of nature just to have lasted this long, while you can expect most CBs to, if they're good enough to stick around that long.

What is my point again? Well it's that RBs peak sooner, decline faster, get injured more frequently and you can find great production from their position much later on in the draft. That coupled with the fact that passing differential is actually strongly correlated to winning whereas running differential is not means you're crazy to draft a back high.

I mean look at Peterson. Probably the greatest athlete at the position ever. His last 3 seasons beginning at age 29? 19 games played. 29 games missed. The 7 years before that he averaged a missed game per season. Peterson has played 3 complete seasons in his career. Revis twice that. This year alone Peterson will miss almost as many games as Revis has in his career.

Bottom line is Revis has been worth the contracts he's signed after his rookie deal. Peterson has not been. And that's not a coincidence. It's the nature of their respective positions.
