Zimmer's defense ranked 10 overall by NFL rankings, 11 by Aikman while saturated with rookies and an injury ridden Linebacker corps in the first year of a new scheme. Not quite where it needs to be, but it produced just as many sacks as Combover Capers' defense - who seems to be idolized and revered for some unfathomable reason by an alarming number of posters on this board after years of coaching mediocrity and a defense that ranked 31 in NFL rankings and 32 by Aikman this season.
Houston's defense also ranked dead last in turnovers this year. Don't tell me a defensive minded HC wasn't giving any input into his team's defensive scheme. That would be pretty naive. My guess is that Capers is riding a reputation from many years ago in Pittsburgh that he probably didn't really earn in the first place. And you want this guy in charge of our defense? The last thing we need is another coordinator that Parcells needs to keep on a leash.
That being said, I don't care if Zimmer stays or goes. If he's an iota as bad as most people rate him here, he has no chance whatsoever of being hired as a HC, so get used to him. Defense is hardly the main area of concern for this team. Linebackers? Yeah, but Zimmer did an okay job this year, IMO.
